Hello all. Quick question: Just curious to know if there is a list of all Lumia 1520 variants? Keen to better understand the version of 1520 I now own (having bought one secondhand).

Most of the difference is in the radios. Nokia Lumia 1520 - Full phone specifications

The RM-940 for AT&T is the big deviation. It offers only 16GB internal storage on most with a rare 32GB upgrade only in black. ALL AT&T models have Qi Wireless Charging stripped out. Then PowerMat charging is added in, but requires a jacket. AT&T models have the 3 contact pins on the back for the charging jacket and no other 1520 has that.

I was about to ask the same thing. I'm surprised no one here has made a sticky on the various 1520 variants with which networks they best work with. From what I can tell the only one that works well with T-Mobile is the RM-938 is that correct?

Nice!!! Except it skips RM-938 all together.

Sure... Until just a couple weeks ago...

The issue with a carrier unlocked AT&T 1520 not working optimally on T-Mo is the missing 1700 MHz on the 3G radio which you want to have in any area where T-Mo does not offer LTE... Without 3G @ 1700 you fall down to EDGE when LTE coverage drops out.

That may now be fixed. AR2186 has a workaround how-to: http://forums.windowscentral.com/no...-1520-t-mobile-aws-3g-hspa-band-4-1700-a.html Seems the 3G @ 1700 MHz is on the radio, but disabled. AR2186 shows how to use Field Test to activate it and then you are golden.

I'm using the AT&T 1520 on T-Mobile and have no problems. I picked up a brand new AT&T 1520 from ebay for $350 unlocked. Couldn't justify spending $200 more to get the RM-938.

Also I know my link doesn't specify product codes for the RM-938, but I couldn't find them anywhere.

Is it possible to install a RM-937/38 firmware on the AT&T that it's RM-940? Heard that Denim has appeared in CV Finland and i want to try it.

Have you tried to enable 1700 WCDMA yet?

I went to the service menu and enabled it there. However I live in a refarmed area so I have no way to verify that it is actually working.
But the thread that explains the workaround has a couple posts saying that it works.

I'd leave that 1700 WCDMA active for traveling. Glad you tried it out. Thanks for the update.

So anybody knows if i can flash another firmware in my AT&T 1520?

Because the hardware is different I doubt the firmware for the RM-938 would even work.
If the 1520 is anything like other AT&T windows phone it will have the firmware locked down anyway so it can't be flashed.

Who was the seller on Ebay? The only AT&T 1520 unlocked ones I saw were I think store displays or refurbs. I'm on the same boat too can't get myself to spend 500+ on the device that's already a year old. Also are you able to do Tmobile's wifi calling?

Only T-Mo branded phones can use the T-Mo WiFi calling App. Sorry.
