My father is asking me for a budget smart phone with good camera.. Is 520 good for day to day photos?

I would say so. It is on par with the Moto G (which would be the next price step) and has slightly better "low light performance"

Once an avid photographer with way too much spent on DSLRs and lenses (haven't done much the last 2 years), I never really gave the camera in my 520 a thought and have largely ignored it this past year.

Yesterday, though, my wife and I took a drive and while enjoying the view at this wharf, I remembered I had the 520 in my pocket. Well, the little camera impressed me! It's not fantastic, but it gets the job done when you just want to capture that memory.
