Lumia 640: All contacts erased, how can I get them back?

Lumia 640: All contacts erased

Few days ago I bought Lumia 640 LTE Dual SIM. I had some trouble moving all my data from old Android phone but finally i was all set up. Today i found that ALL my contacts are gone. After trying to figure this out i realized that Windows Phone decided i don't need hundreds of contacts in my phone book and instead replaced them with several emails that i have in my Hotmail account. I tried to look for the option to sync only emails and skip contacts but it seems that "Smartphone Reinvented" is just a false advertisement. I feel very disappointed with Windows Phone because:
1. I am not allowed to use phone as i want to;
2. I am not allowed to chose what i want/don't want to sync;
3. Windows Phone feels limited and unfriendly compared to customization options of Android.

Is there any way out of this mess other than returning back to proper smartphone OS?

Did you add your google account ? Even i am using windows phone for the first time. Never had this kind of problem. After adding google account the phone synced all my contacts email and calendar.
