The battery percentage drops by around 10 percent overnight ( 6 hours) and I have no idea why. Problem was before firmware update and even now. The wifi is on but isn't connected to any network but I need it to be on. The wifi won't be the problem since I had it on even on my 640 and there was no battery drain. Any specific reason?

Hi, deep sleep cycles of a smartphone where the processor steps down to the lowest assigned clock speed and your phone consumes less battery that on standard usage. I Have seen my lumia 730 on windows 10 loosing upto 8-10% each night while is device was only connected to the wifi and with no background processes/apps.

I believe this has to do something with the OS not been completely optimized and causing this behavior. for better results you could also try a soft reset. ( hold volume down+power keys till phone vibrates)

That sounds about normal, the lowest mine ever uses power when not doing anything is 1.5% per hour. That's better than any other windows phone I've had.

True. But it used to not happen with 640. Will try soft reset before sleeping and check if it helps in the morning. However soft reset itself will drop the percentage by 5-6% immediately.

You can try to check the "Settings > System > Battery > Battery usage by app" what is causing your high battery drain.

Just noticed that the battery usage by app has the ' previous 6 hours' option. I remember there was only 24 and 48 hr option previously. Thanks. Will check that tomorrow morning.

Tried soft reset at night. But the percentage dropped by 10 anyway in the morning. The battery usage showed whatsapp using 27% and lumia highlights using 18% during the time my phone was off. I dont even open lumia highlights. Anyway lumia highlights is gone. Will uninstall it.

Still think your battery usage is normal, though the whatsapp and lumia highlights are high. Just checked mine and both are registering near enough zero over the last 6 hours. (over night).

As to removing lumia highlights, its baked into the system, you'll have to wait untill MS remove it with a future update I guess.

My 2 week old 650 has been dropping 40-50% overnight from a full charge, noticeable for at least the last couple of nights.

I had changed the email setting several days ago to "checking email as it comes in" from whatever the default was. Could this be the problem? I just changed it to checking every 15 minutes in hopes that might help.

I also had the Glance screen set for "always on". I just changed it to turning off after 30 seconds. But this defeats the purpose of having the Glance screen. It seems having it "always on" it turns off anyway, but it comes back on when the phone is shook/moved. This is my first phone with the Glance screen - can you let me know how you have your Glance screen set and how you use it, and whether this might be part of my battery drain problem? I thought with the OLED screen, the screen can light up just the characters vs. using a backlight for the whole screen, so it should have a negligible drain, like maybe a LCD watch. True?

Looking at the battery usage page, I noticed usage of 20-15% for WhatsApp. I seem to use it only about once a year or so with my sister (and not yet on this phone at all), so that doesn't seem worth it. But if I set it to "never allowed in background", does that mean I would miss anything that my sister sends me. In that case, maybe I should just delete the app, since I don't plan to initiate contact with it?

I welcome any tips or comments on what might be causing the drain. Besides the WhatsApp, nothing on the battery usage list above about 1% is an app from the Store - just the default apps.

That does sound a lot, mine probably drops about 1.5% per hour when on standby, so over night 10 hours ish, I'd expect about 15-20%. That would be normal.

If your 650 is new, it may be running updates etc. You could make sure its fully up to date, then do a hard reset from the System/about settings screen, then set phone up from new, or just give the phone a little longer to settle down. Whatapp is one of the higher battery usage apps.

As to the glance screen, you're right, it uses very little. As to how it works, if you set it to 30 secs, it will use the light sensor to turn on when you take it out of your pocket, it will then remain on for 30 secs and then go off. If it is in the light all the time, it will go off after 30 secs, but wave your hand over the sensor and it will come on for 30 secs.

Biggest problem is that when plugged in, it will run all the time, MS removed the option to set this (god knows why) this may cause a problem with burn in of the screen with AMOLED screens like the 650.

It was actually more like 40% for 4-5 hours, or close to 10% per hour two nights ago. The phone just updated a couple hours ago, so maybe it took a couple nights to download the update while I wasn't noticing? How large are these updates anyway?

Thanks for the information about the Glance screen. I didn't know it was turning on and off based on a light sensor because I was using mostly either when it was always in the light (charging on a desk) or always in the dark (at night, pulling it out from under the pillow to check the time while still in darkness).

You can do a quick test, turn it to on all the time, put it on your desk, and cover and uncover the sensor, top left of front camera.

Even my 650 has a high WhatsApp usage ever since the last WhatsApp update. Whereas on my mom's 535, WhatsApp and Windows default lock screen drains out all the battery and there seems to be no way to fix it even after not allowing them to be run in the background.

Just checked by battery monitor out of interest, and mine has discharged about 55% in about 20 hours, and that included system update last night, and general (low) usage during the day.
