Lumia 650 or BLU Win HD LTE

Hi everyone,

So I'm trying to decide which phone to get for my mom, the Lumia 650 or the BLU Win HD LTE. I already got the BLU for $40 off of amazon ( I can still return it) but today I realized that the Lumia 650 is being offered for $80. I have a lumia 950XL and I absolutely hate the phone and Win10 mobile, which is why I got the BLU (since it comes with wp 8.1). My mom only uses the phone for calls and messaging, so apps are not an issue. But I don't want her to be stuck with an OS which won't receive any updates in the future. So I just wanted to get others opinion on this- is the 650 worth $80 and is it a definite buy over the BLU Win HD?

If you care about updates, you can't do too much worse than BLU. They have their strengths in raw bang-for-buck but software updates (or lack of) is their downside. I think the 650 is definitely worth $40 more especially since the Win HD LTE is an older device. Heck, if you can snag a 640 for $40-60 it may be a better deal.

The BLU Win HD LTE isn't bad and it should work just fine. Just note that it does have a quiet ringer. I think it was actually updated to the Anniversary Update, but not past that unfortunately.

Anyway, I agree with @xandros9. If you can locate a 640, get her one. It wouldn't nag her about the update and it would be more of a choice.

Yeah, I've been trying to get the lumia 640 but all of them are being sold for somewhere around $80 and I don't think that's the right price for a phone that's not in production anymore. Also, when you said a better deal, did you mean better than BLU or better than 650?

I'm not even going to update that to Win10 mobile...I don't want my mom facing all sorts of issues with that OS, especially when I'm not around.

Ah okay. Secondhand devices might get you a better deal. The 650 isn't bad at all, it's pretty nice but no point in getting her a device with an OS you don't like.

Having owned both, I'd say Lumia 650 over HD LTE any time. The SD 212 isn't as smooth as the SD 410, but you gain a lot more. Screen, Camera, more conventionally acceptable styling, sound quality, SD card bus speed, official support for the software.

However, if you want a winner for your Mother to use on 8.1, get a Lumia 640 or 640 XL.

Yeah, I do want the 640, basically check ebay everyday to see if anyone posts a good deal.
