The carrier has to enable if (visual voice mail always and regular voicemail sometimes) But with most US carriers you dial 1 then wait for the prompts to set up voice mail. Visual vm on the other hand has to be enabled by the carrier (call them) IF they have it for your specific phone, if they don't you're SOL
