Hello guys,

I'm new here. One of these two phones will be my next phone and I can't decide. Today, GSMArena, released a review of the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and they loved it. The most stunning thing was the ridiculous battery life, which can last you over 4 days on a single charge. I'm choosing between these two but all indications point that the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact will be expensive and close to $600. I currently use a Nokia Lumia 925 White, but I feel like it's time for an upgrade. It's nice to meet all of you.

I would say wait until the 830 is out, check it out in the shops and have a feel for yourself then watch the reviews & hands on (if you can hold out that long :winktongue: ).

Going to watch / read the their review as the battery life really depends on your usage habits, if your a basic user and don't tax your phone much you will see a longer charge to charge time as opposed to someone who is constantly on their phone.

Edit:
Having read the review it looks to be a decent & a high end phone, for that price I would expect no less than high end specs. One nagging issue is the plastic covers.. from experience they are not that durable and are prone to tearing easily.

Thanks Tech Freak,

Living in the US I'll have to wait until both of these phones hit the stores. I know that AT&T is getting the Lumia 830 and I believe T-Mobile is getting the Z3 Compact. Hopefully I get to use them soon because I'm really excited.Let me know what you think of the review.

If you can afford the Z3 Compact, buy it. I bought a Z series phone this week and I'm blown away by the quality of it. Sony really knows how to make a beautiful phone.

Thanks for the input I appreciate it.

Which Z phone did you buy? What has blown my mind is today I found out that you can buy the Xperia Z3 Compact for $500, that is an absolute steal considering this thing is only missing a 1080P display from being one of the best phones in the marketplace. If the Lumia 830 is $1 over $400 I'm going to have a lot of second thoughts about buying it.

I bought the Z Ultra Google Play edition with pure Android. Snapdragon 800, 6.4" 1080p display, 2GB of ram, waterproof. Expansys is selling them for $334.99, which is half off. Sony Z Ultra C6806 (Unlocked LTE, 16GB, Black, Google Play Edition) #C6806_Google_Play_edition - Expansys USA

For 500$ its a steal, don't wait we already know everything about the L830 yea the camera maybe will be good but that would be it everything else you can get in the poor packed L630. I'd say go for a true lower tier flagship.

Was really looking forward to the 830 but now in all likely hood I'll be picking up a Z3. T-Mobile is going to have it when my I can Jump later this month.

That is a beast of a device but it's too big for my usage. But holy cow is that an amazing deal, I can't think of a phone that's a better deal than that right now.

Yeah, honestly the only two things keeping me back is I love Windows Phone and the second thing is the camera. Other than that, the Z3 Compact is crazy appealing. Is there any word on a release date for the Lumia 830? The Z3 Compact will be available for sale at the end of the month which is great.

This is a great phone the only gripe with it is the placing of the power and volume buttons on the side. Other than that this phone is perfect. I really hope t-mobile gets it.

This is really a no brainer: Z3 Compact.

The Z3 Compact is superior in every single way. It has a snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.5Ghz instead of a snapdragon 400. 2GB of RAM instead of 1GB. It has a brighter and better screen. It has a 20.7mp Sony Exmor G Lens camera which beats the crap out of the 10mp one on the 830. It's waterproof. It's smaller albeit having a 4.6" screen. It has the same 720p but higher ppi.
There's really no competition. The Z3 Compact is a flagship device. It competes directly with the 930. I have one pre-ordered and I will test it against my 930 but I'm expecting it to be on pair if not beat it.

The Z3Compact runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat though. Which means although it comes with microSD card, you can't save or move apps to the microSD card (unless Sony has implemented the same feature they did on the T2. We don't know yet). Android L is supposed to bring back microSD card functionality that Android enjoyed prior to KitKat and that WP8.1 now has. So if you're ok with 11GB of storage and limited microSD functionality (at least for the time being), you'll be fine with it.
(Note you can solve the problem of the microSD by rooting the device and going around it but that requires some expertise the common users don't have).

Now the Z3 Compact IS EXPENSIVE. The Z series is Sony's flagship line of devices. My Z3 Compact cost me 464€ which is $599 and it was because I got it at Clove.co.uk. Because on Amazon Germany, for example, the phone is selling for 499€ which is over $600.

I don't think it's just a matter of just comparing phones. I happily use a 1520.3. i never dreamed I could get away from iPhone and flagship android devices. But the Windows experience just suits me better. Build quality and specs don't always equate to the best user experience. Good luck.

May suggestion Go for Z3 Compact.

Just forget about WP & Android and see only what both of these phone offering.
Z3 beat L830 in every department.

If you are not hardcore fan of WP or Android hater then
You will be more happy with Z3

It's not really a fair fight. The Lumia 830 wasn't made to compete with the Z3 Compact. As others have alluded to, the 930 would be a more fair comparison.

It really is a matter of preference, both in phones and how much you're willing to pay. Sony is my favorite OEM outside of Nokia, but I fell in love with the 830's aesthetics and though specs-wise its inferior to my 1520, I'll likely make the switch to the 830 as soon as its out.

It's amazing how someone can make a thread and backtrack so much, but today I made my choice.

*Drumroll*

I went for the LG G3.

Why did I go for the LG G3? For a couple of reasons, for starters, it only cost me $500 to get an LG G3 brand new sealed in the box. Second, it has a really small footprint, even though this phone has a massive 5.5" screen, the size of this phone is similar in size to most 5" phones on the market today. Next, the battery life is incredible for a phone this big, not as amazing as a Z3 Compact but it's way up there for phones with 5" displays. The resolution of this device at 2560 x 1440 is incredible, and honestly I think the clarity will be incredible.

It's sad, I really wanted to go for a Microsoft Nokia Phone, but they need to consider making more devices. The only two phones I was choosing between (When Windows is concerned) is the Lumia 830 and 930. With Android there are like ten phones. Microsoft needs to buy out another company, or start making their own phones like a Surface Phone.

So that's that, now who wants to but a White Factory Unlocked Nokia Lumia 925 with Crumena Pouch? ;)

Lol, I thought price was an issue hence why you were considering the 830 . The LG G3 is a stellar device, If LG make a windows phone version and it is not tied to exclusively to the US then I would definitely consider it. But right now I have my eyes on a 1020.. which is a steal right now.. missed out on some ebay auctions where it went for sub ?130 lol..

Hello, yeah it wasn't the price, it was the form factor and the fact that I am a big fan on Windows Phone. The LG G3 was appealing because the form factor is really small for a device with a screen this big. I really wanted to stay with Windows Phone, but they need more options! The 1020 is a great device a good friend of mine has his, and he loves everything about it, you won't be disappointed.

I'm due a new phone in a couple of months, and the Z3C and 830 are the two I'm mostly comparing. I spent almost the last two years using a Lumia 820 - which I loved - but am currently using an HTC Desire 610. The only two issues I have with going back to WP is the lack of a bank app for my bank, and not quite so many games (although this isn't a big deal). My main concern with the 830 is the processor - qc1.2 snapdragon 400 just doesn't sound like it'll have the power to do much compared to the Z3C's qc2.5 snapdragon 801.

Of course, now I have to check out the LG G3 too...
