I have had my 920 for two years now and have experienced this maybe a half-dozen times. For me it is caused by incomplete updates. For instance, for the last one, I had to go into Settings and Network+ and it prompted me to restart to finish the update. Upon restart it was fine again. For another one I had to go to Extras+Info and it prompted me to restart to finish the update and again after restarting, it was fine. Simply restarting the phone without going into the setting did not help. Perhaps open each setting to see if there are any updates in progress? Symptoms slightly different than those in the question, but it can't hurt except to waste a few minutes.

Good point, I had one for the Device hub that I had to reboot last night...will keep an eye on it

Wasn't the reboot pending from device hub, phone got really hot while at home...dialed ##3282#, went in and changed to 3g (says 4g in corner, no LTE) and phone cooled down

I have confirmed this over and over again, if I leave the phone so it shows 4G instead of LTE, I have no issues, not once has it happened....got home, put it back to LTE, it starts heating up, put back in 4G, it stops....I can reboot the phone and its fine in LTE until I go into a 4g area and go back to LTE....nokia wants me to send it back in, but I know its a useless cause....

Could the 4G <--> LTE thing be a poor coverage area? I've not had any issues going between 4G and LTE.

Part of the city I get 4g in (work) I have pretty decent coverage, and some parts of city have LTE which is fine too...at home where I have LTE, I usually always have full signal. Plus, it isn't a problem when I don't go to work....even at times when I have very poor service at work (like when I am in a basement), the battery will drop faster, but phone doesn't get hot and drop 1% per minute.

It happens to my Lumia 920 me in one specific area. So I got impression that it could be related to LTE coverage or WiFi configuration (maybe some bug in specific protocol implementation or smth). I am actually trying to experiment now - disable WiFi when I am at this place, and after I started doing that I didn't have this problem. But it was not regular before and I started the experiment just a week ago so it's too early to say if it's WiFi that causing the problem or not.

That's a good idea, I may try this...it happens in that one area for me too, unfortunately I travel there everyday for work haha...maybe if I think about it, I will shut off wifi and try that...other than that bug, I love the phone, I have no need to upgrade for a while....I also thought about calling AT&T and having them pull the LTE from my account so I only get 4G...don't want to resort to that, but at least the 4G is fast enough to not tell a difference

You can choose 3G (shows as 4G on the phone then, it's AT&T HSPA+) by going into the field test menu.
By choosing 3g the phone won't constantly be trying to find a LTE signal.

Do the battery drain only occurs when using the lastet delevoper preview? My own 920 are eating battery very fast, sometimes 5% in couple of minutes even when no apps running in background. I was wondering if we could expect better battery life with the latest cyan update?

How old is your phone ?
How do you typically use it, let the battery run way low before recharging, etc. ?
Do you use wireless charging ?

Could simply be that your battery has lost a lot of it's usefully capacity and simply needs to be replaced.

Chatted with AT&T, he said it could be an issue with the service handoff, but he said if you go into field test mode, select settings, set 3g as connection and turn off ESN mode, it will stay....I will run this for a few days and see if it fixes it. I would rather have no LTE instead of a phone that dies too quickly.

Huh? Dialing ##3282# only displays my phone number on my AT&T 920. No field test.

I'm also suffering from fast battery drain. Then again, I have a launch unit (Nov 2012) and the battery is most likely wearing out. I'm desperately waiting for a W10 flagship!

Weird, I have an AT&T 920 and it brings up the field test...

If you go into your settings and about, what os version and firmware are you on? I am on developer preview, but it brought it up before without the DP

My phone are 18 months old, A typical working day is that I take the phone off the charger at 7 pm and then i should last the hole work day which is 8 hours. But yes the battery used to last a work day without any problem at all, so I think as you suggested that I should buy a new battery.

As a note, I have removed DP from my phone and then "reinstalled" (used lumia software recovery tool) Cyan on my phone, what a difference in battery life it last much longer now.
