Lumia Icon camera flash always on

When I take a picture and press the capture button half way down to focus, the flash will always illuminate, even if I have flash set to "off". Is there any way to fix this? Running 8.1 dev prev.

The flash won't actually illuminate if I take the picture when it's set to off though which is good. This happens both in Lumia Camera and the Microsoft camera.

You could try downgrading your operating system. Check to see I camera flash problem persists. If not it could be the preview for devs update that caused the problem.

I believe it is the focus assist light. I'm not sure because I've never owned a WP with flash. Go into Lumia camera settings and disable Focus Assist Light. This would do it I guess. The LED fires a light to enable the phone to focus the subject properly, so you might want it enabled.

Would the flash also illuminate in daytime? Bright conditions?

This is the focus assist light. You can turn this off in your camera settings.

Focus light assist is much more useful than flash. Flash will cause glare and reflection on photos.

My setting is on focus light and off flash.
