So I read an interesting article on WMPower user about HTC fortunes, or lack there of. When half way down it makes the sweeping statement about MS having cut ties with Verizon allowing an opening for HTC.

How true is that cutting ties statement? I can't imagine them not carrying W10 upon release.

Microsoft inherited the carrier relations Nokia had established for Lumia... Yes? These relationships were extremely lopsided in favor of US carriers.

Microsoft is not Nokia.

Starting with Win 10 Mo it is a brand new game. Microsoft is done taking a back seat and letting the carriers drive the OS into obscurity. All the US carriers will be undergoing a reset with how they treat Lumia, so far as Microsoft is concerned. The carriers can get on board or not.

There are many discussion threads on this around the board. This one is probably most extensive concerning the future of the platform on Verizon: http://forums.windowscentral.com/microsoft-cityman-lumia-950-xl/368800-verizon-debacle-new-post.html

You think this would allow the AT&T Lumia 830 to get windows 10 Mobile on release?

I can't imagine it having any impact in other carriers update schedule, but if AT&T's history holds true, expect the update a couple of months after they start selling new W10 hardware.

Through Insider, fo sho'.

I'm debating with myself whether AT&T is skipping an update a la Verizon and the Icon, SE, or just ditching it entirely, forever.

MS is supposed to have more control over 10's release, but we don't know if that applies to the first release of 10.
