Major problem with contacts that forces me to save two numbers (one local, one with country code)

I have a Lumia 920 with WP8 in Armenia. If my contact is saved as +374 94 xxxxxx, incoming calls are not recognized as contacts and phone numbers without the international code are displayed instead, the reverse is true for SMS, senders are recognized. On the other hand, if my contact is saved as 094 xxxxxx, caller will be recognized as a contact, but SMS sender will not, because the international code number will be displayed (+374 94 xxxxxx). The only solution for now is to save two numbers for one contact, with and without international code. This is extremely annoying. I have used a BB, several Android phones and an iPhone 4S without ever encountering such a problem. Surely there must be an easy fix for this? Will this be addressed in 8.1? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Thanks for the prompt response hopmedic, with a quick search I found multiple "feature suggestions" identifying this bug. It really boggles my mind how something so huge could have been overlooked. I'm seriously considering switching to another phone as a result of this because saving two identical numbers per contact with and without a country code is really not something I'm looking forward to.

I would just like to add that this is a glitch, it's not a missing feature.

Strange. My contacts are stored with +1 and show up, when I get a call. Perhaps it only works with +1.

Yes it appears to be so, my friends in Canada where the country code is +1 like the US cannot recreate this issue but friends in UK and Serbia have the exact same problem. There must be some sort of a workaround.

Hello!
Is there any progress on this topic?

I just bought a Lumia 930 and I have exactly the same problem.
I'm from Slovenia, our code is +386.

Hi guys,

It is now December 2014 and this issue still remains...and it appears nobody did anything since 2010, still back in WP 7.

I posted a bug fix on the Feature suggestion page that Hopmedic mentioned. I can't seem to post a link here, but if you follow Hopmedic's link above and then search for "BUG: Fix callerID for international numbers for incoming calls and texts".

Let's try and get this sorted. It is really shameful that old phones never had an issue with this!
