On the lock screen, the navigation bar is transparent. Once unlocked, the bar goes back to solid.
Is there a way to retain the transparency?

In short, no. You either hide it or have it onscreen.

A transparent navigation bar would cause UI issues as it would overlap with any app controls on the bottom.

I second the latter!

The level of transparency on the lockscreen navigation buttons isn't 100%, it's just enough that you can still see the background color and just enough of the buttons as to make the screen feel larger.

I agree with you on this. I also miss having the option to have the nav bar always black, regardless of dark or light theme.
