Maybe worth waiting for SP4 - Broadwell chips that use 30% less power than Haswell

Yep, love the design of the SP3, but I'm sticking with my SP1 for just a little bit longer. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a refresh with the new processors in less than a year and maybe even Iris Pro 5100 graphics.

They did a SP2 mid model refresh with the new processors didn't they? So my guess is that by October the SP3 will be shipping with the Broadwell chips. As much as I would love to upgrade now I plan on waiting for broadwell.

I'll be holding off as well, as my SP1 still fits my needs (although the SP3 is VERY tempting).

However, I think it'll be in '15 before any new models come out. August is delivery for the i7s (and i3s too?) - plus I thought I read that you can't just slap a Broadwell into a Haswell motherboard. There's more to it than that, so it'll likely be a bit longer because it wont just be a chip refresh.

There's always something new around the corner.

Yeah hardware typically has a 6month - 1 year upgrade cycle. Its best to just get something now than wait. Or if you are waiting don't fall into the trap to get the 'NEXT' best thing and get what you were waiting for in the first place. Chances are what you were waiting for fulfills your exact needs as is, but just waiting for the next best thing because its 'better' isn't going to change anything unless there was a reason for it. Like the SP2 vs SP3 debate, if you had a SP2 IMO theres no point in 'upgrading' to a SP3

The thought of waiting has crossed my mind as well, but I wonder if the SP3 will be more useful for me as I tackle certain projects in the coming months. The issue with waiting is you can fall into a trap of never buying because the next best thing is around the corner :)
