Microsoft 10 error on boot 0xc000000d blue screen of death

I have tried several times and get the same result each time.

The upgrade goes as expected, Windows reboots and when windows starts to load it gives a blue screen of death followed by 0xc000000d. I then reboot and windows 8.1 loads fine. I have searched on that error code and the problems I have found all deal with upgrading to Windows 8.1. I run 8.1 just fine. Sort of stuck and any suggestions would be appreciated.
