Simple.
  • Microsoft does not care about consumers anymore.
  • The Windows ecosystem is absent from the consumer's digital lifestyle.
  • Microsoft is shifting toward being a cloud services provider only.
  • Windows has never been so irrelevant.

"Microsoft does not care about consumers anymore."

Anymore? They never did. They tried for a few years but very few consumers were interested.

"The Windows ecosystem is absent from the consumer's digital lifestyle."

It never was. Windows, Office, Visual Studio, SQL Server and Exchange Server are not consumer products.

"Microsoft is shifting toward being a cloud services provider only."

That's a good place to be. There is no more money to be made in PC hardware, and Windows is already free.

"Windows has never been so irrelevant."

To consumers, as always. It is VERY relevant to businesses, as always.

I thought all of the stores were closed already. No point in having a physical store when you have no consumer products.

"The closure of the Microsoft Store in the UK is another blow for Microsoft's consumer facing products and services..."

Which are?

Windows is still valuable for consumers who are gamers. However, stores are not needed for gamers because games and Windows aren't available as physical media, and Microsoft doesn't sell any hardware that gamers use.
