Microsoft rumored to announce Android apps support for Windows 10 at Build 2015

From the Build presentation:

Microsoft has created some sort of "Android layer" that will be hosted in the Windows security container. In what was a super brief explanation, it will allow Android developers to reuse the same code for bringing it to WP.

AWESOME JOB, MICROSOFT.

This sounds like a step up from emulation in the sense that it's not pretending to be an Android phone, it's an actual WP app with the ability to take advantage of things like HERE. Hopefully we'll get a more detailed explanation tomorrow.

EDIT:

Here's a much better explanation

Yeah, they've already talked about this at build. They are NOT going to allow Android apps to run on Windows. They ARE going to allow devs to reuse their Java and C++ to compile native Windows 10 apps, and allow them to access the full Windows 10 API from Java/C++.

This is the way it should be done.

They are also making it easy to recompile iOS Objective C for Windows 10 as well.

This is pretty awesome.

awesome..and I believe this is the best move..lets hope to get more apps in Store. Candy Crush Saga on WP is compiled iOS code on WP..lovely..

^ Yup. MS isn't providing the capability to run Android apps on WP. It's actually just a new way to make a WP app, rather than a way to run an Android app on WP.

It was a false rumour all along
