Molly Wood gives 8.1 a shot

Not everybody is going to love Windows Phone... it's her personal opinion. Get over it.

My post above your post (the one I quotes) is basically the response to this. I think you should read it.

Maybe Molly should use the phone in vibrate mode - I hear that it's much more effective that way in converting skeptics.

She reminds me of Ed the talking horse.

For people under the age of 40 bing him or ask Cortana.

Personally I think Michael Fisher of pocketnow.com is the gold standard of tech reviewers and is the sort of reviewer that all others should strive to be like. He obviously has his favourite platform but he's unbiased in his reviews. Have a look for his review of the WP8.1 developer preview on YouTube and you'll see what I mean.

I agree. MF is a great charismatic reviewer who actually knows what he's talking about. Probably the only reason to ever visit Pocketnow.com. I do wish though that he would stop relying on Google services and give Outlook and OneDrive a chance.

Wait a minute... didn't we all swear off Molly Wood about 4 reviews ago?

Why, oh why do you all do this to yourselves, fellow WPC posters? Do you all think you blood pressure isn't high enough naturally?

I actually go to Cnet quit a bit... for every type of tech that isn't a smart phone or tablet. Cameras and such, they are fine. Blue tooth and headphones... no sweat.

But, Ms Wood? Repeat after me, everyone.... I will not click on the link.

My Blood Pressure is just fine :-p

I prefer the review Michael Fisher of Pocket Now did of WP8.1 as he knows what he's talking about and seems to be one of the least biased people when reviewing tech.

But that's his personal preference, the thing is that he doesn't allow that to cloud his judgement when he reviews competitor platforms.

When you see it in a different perspective, from the perspective of someone who had an iPhone and wanted to change phones, it changes your views. People here have been complaining about the bias, but that's how a general phone user would look at it (as they don't bother to get to know every little bit of thing from the OS of the new phone they wanted to buy, e.g. Android & WP). She isn't well versed in the WP OS and is still fairly new to WP8.1, so given her lack of knowledge she would write something like this.

Also, when a reviewer compares the WP with iphones, the community quickly flames that reviewer and claims that their reviews are bias. But aren't phones supposed to be compared? There are some reviewers who flaunt their obvious bias, but reading the article, this reviewer isn't biased to the iphone. She just has the iphone, which she uses daily, and compares it with a new phone she got. How is that biased? How is comparing wrong? Why does comparing result in hate comments?

Go have a look at her review of the 1020 and then tell us she isn't biased!!!

Okay, there is a certain truth to what you are saying. If the iPhone is what you know, of course your frame of reference is to compare it.

But... the obvious diffence here is that Ms. Wood is on CNET. As a Smartphone reviewer. If her frame of mind is "compare everything to the only thing I know, which is the iPhone", then there are fan sites that are perfect for her. Otherwise, she is supposed to be professional. She is supposed to understand what each OS is bringing to the table. It shouldn't be all from one reference. Sticking to Mr. Fisher from Pocket Now contrast, when he slams a device (such as his reviews of the Samsung ATIV Neo and HTC 8XT on Sprint, of which he was not impressed with either), we do not react with scathing threads. He has been more then fair to WP. He also has been criticle of other OS's. He isn't perfect, as any review in the end is a personel opinion. But he is fairly level and good humored.

Ms. Wood just....isn't. More power to her and I hope all her paychecks from CNET clear each week, but I don't have to waste my time listening or reading something biased to the point of predicting the complaint prior to her saying it.

There is a certain amount of defensiveness here when we have that kind of "anti-WP' reviews. But, hey- this WP Central. Kinda fits here.

Molly Wood doesn't work for CNET anymore. She left them to work with the New York Times.

I think the WP Central on the big 3 Mobile assistants was much more realistic and showed, in an unbiased way, how each performed simultaneously to the same identical searches. Molly's handling, background noise etc cannot make for a real subjective review. Sometimes she is real plain stupid. Other times she's just annoying.

Cnet for as long as I can remember is an automatic non click. I lost respect for them so long ago. It doesn't matter what they review, their reviews are always just awful. I've heard info come from them that's so bad that they might actually be worse than the geek squad.

I guess in her defense, this review is a bit more balanced, but she doesn't use Cortana to her full potential.

Lol i just cant stop laughing after I read the review and watched the video.
It might not be a fair comparison because she must be using the iPhone for quiet sometime and she is just using the Windows Phone only within a week. iPhone would have learned her trip patterns over the months and Cortana should be given the same timing to learn.

I haven't seen the video but reading all of your comments here, I guess I won't...

but the article is quite good despite having her bias clearly seen, IMHO...
