Can I put my movies on OneDrive to stream to my phone as long as I don't share it, or what..?

Wow you are sure bent on covering your tush legally!

Yes, you can put movies on your OneDrive! The only thing we really know for sure is off limits is no sharing pornography through OneDrive.
If you share it, it is uber-unlikely anything will happen. So a friend can view it or whatever. I've shared video's I've taken, etc through OneDrive.

A few weeks ago, my account was suspended because I had saved a dirty picture to my phone and I have auto upload on..

Not my best moment.. :D

yea we've had conflicting info regarding that

The OneDrive team says only if you share it risks stuff
but then others say this and that

sigh, doesn't seem to make sense.

understandable

I believe they have a size limit per individual file, if I'm not mistaken it's 1-2 GB. Now, that is not to bad but anything less than a GB for a movie would probably not look to amazing, even on a smartphone or tablet but I know in my movie collection I go for HD 1080p if I can get away with it and those take up a nice amount of space.

I'd like to know how anyone uses onedrive to upload moves, why???? it takes hours and hours to upload them, the streaming is not much good on drive.live and if you want to watch it elsewhere you have to download it again! I don;t get why anyone would bother, where is the attraction? can someone explain to me. thanks

I do believe that its 10GB for individual files.

I also have all my DVD rips uploaded to the cloud in video_TS format. I also have a rip that plays well with all my devices stored on there too. On my windows devices, I can stream or download it to watch later. On my iOS devices i can stream it. Im going to try putting all my recorded TV from my media center on it this weekend. I wanna test out how "unlimited" actually is.

bringing this thread back from the dead. Does anyone know OneDrive/MSFT's stance on storing movies?? I'd like to backup my movies to OneDrive. I will not be "sharing" with anyone.

Thanks!

I have the same question as Pavan. Using 31Gb of my 1Tb storage, and wondering if I'll run afoul of anyone at MS if I upload the 315Gb of movie files I have stored locally. Still well within my storage limits, but wondering what their rules are on Movies.

I don't think they'll really care unless you turn yours into something resembling The Pirate Bay.

I've had movies stored and such.

situations are different for different countries. For you and me, it takes a couple of days to upload a few GB while for others it takes a couple of hours as they have really fast upload speeds. I have 200kBps upload connection while at my university they have 6MBps upload speed, a factor of 30 upward. Same thing with download/streaming.

If you have a 500GB hard disk and you want your movies to be stored on onedrive which has 1TB, why not? Especially if you don't expect to be watching those movies everyday. Keep on local storage what you use daily. Keep online what you use rarely
