I noticed it had shut off, and wouldn't respond to the power button. I assumed the battery had run down, so I plugged it in. The screen came up, telling the batter was low and it had lost the date and time, I needed to reset them. I did, and left it to charge. 2 hours later, it was still at 0%, and again prompted me to set the time and date. I did and left it to charge. 4 hours later, still at 0%. I took it into the MS store, they told me MS has developed two lines of the band, one to sell, and another to use for replacements. They didn't have any replacement bands. I said I had paid the extra $40 when I bought it for the immediate replacement, the guy, young and clueless, had no idea what that meant, but offered to print out a shipping label so I could send it in to Microsoft.

I had the same issue, sent it back to MS and they replaced it. Also wouldn't replace it in the MS store without paying $39 for the advance replacement plan, told them to pound sand. They had 30 on the shelf they could have given me as a replacement...

Good luck. After a "serious" discussion with my local store (Manager) all I was able to do was have them box it up and send to their replacement center (In Texas). After a week, still awaiting the replacement. Unbelievable poor CS. Maybe they should at least try to equal the service of an Apple store?

Just came back from the store and they exchanged it with a brand new one and moved my complete warranty over. Process took about 15 minutes and was in and out. The few workers there said they have seen the issue and think that the people who did pre-orders when it came out were probably bad batches.

I've had my Band 2 since November. The quoted portion of the original post happened to me last night. I went to bed and still had well over half the battery remaining. The difference for me is that when I plugged the Band in to charge and reset the date and time, it was showing that I had 63% battery charge.

The is the first issue I've had with my Band 2. Hopefully, it was just a one-off thing and won't be a recurring problem.

Three times this week, I've noticed that my Band is not responding to the power button. When I plug it in, it notifies me that my battery has died and asks me to set the date and time. Each time this has happened, my battery remaining has been over 50%. This is frustrating considering I've been able to keep the Band in great physical condition for 4 months.

Any ideas whether this would be a loose wire inside the strap, or if this is some sort of software glitch? I'm trying a factory reset right now, but I might have to visit a store this weekend for a warranty replacement if the problem persists.

I had same problem few days

i reset to factory setting today but had same problem....

i dont know what can i do.... my band working perfect till now

I switch off function time after rotating hand.... Its working normal all day.

I will see, maybe it helps.

I think its a loose connector inside, i had the exact same issue. Its just going to get worse. Just start the warranty return process. When i did i got a 2 day air FedEx label to use to send back, they prcessed the day after they got it, and sent a new one back 2 day shipping. Only reason it took a week is because i sent it Wednesday and they sent on friday, and the 2 day doesn't cover the weekend. I was pretty happy with the process.

According to the support people I spoke with, this has been a common problem. One support person told me that problems like this seen in the field have led to changes in FW and HW, so the replacement bands they are supplying have been upgraded from the original pre-order bands. Like ajj3085, I received a 2-day fedex shipping label. I sent it off, once it arrived at the destination, it took 2 days for their analysis, and I received notification that they have shipped a replacement. The entire process started with my shipping it out last Monday (28 Mar), and receiving the shipping notification Friday (1 Apr). Looking at the FedEx number, it's scheduled to arrive here Tuesday (5 Apr), a total of 1 week + 2 days. I'm envious of netwirejohn's experience, the people at my local MS store were absolute in their refusal to replace my band with a new one they had on hand. Poor CS, IMO.

Ya mine was a preorder one from Amazon, got it on 10/31. The replacement has been good so far.

This just happened to me today in the middle of the day after I had just updated the software on it for the additional tiles. I guess I'll have to get with Microsoft for a replacement.

*Edit* I got halfway through logging the support ticket when I decided to reconnect the charger once more. I got a surprise when it vibrated, powered on and showed 91% battery life. It seems to be working normally again so I'll keep and eye on it.

I had the same thing happen last month. It took a total of seven days between sending the defective unit back and receiving a new one. Not bad at all MS!

Ya i thought the same thing. The issue is hardware though, not software. It will only get worse. I couldn't even open it anymore to put it back on and the power would cut out again. Save yourself the headache and get it replaced now. Mine also started doing that after an update, but it was just a coincidence.

After seeing this occur 3 times in 4 days last week, I tried a factory reset as noted in my previous post. It has not happened in the 4 days since the reset. Maybe I'm just getting lucky and haven't yet bent the strap in the wrong place again. I'm going to hold off on trying the warranty exchange until I see the issue come up again.

Too many folks are having this problem to be coincidental. This happened three times this week, so I went to the local ms store and they replaced it quickly. It was a great cs experience.

Mine just died.....wont power on.....but when i plug it in, it shows 90 charged. going to ms store tomorrow

Update: MS store in charlotte replaced it with a new one. Apparently, this is a common (enough) issue. Good customer service!
