My update has crashed the system, how can I fix it?

update has crashed syustem

Since udate yesterday (Nov.4) when starting Windows 10 a message appears: 'windows has problem will repair' (or somesuch.)

Then 'preparing automatic repair'

Then 'Choose keyboard layout'

At this point, neither mouse or keyboard are available and system stays displaying the 'layout' screen until forced shutdown.
How do I regain access to my desktop?
