If I get the 830, would you recommend using the backup from my old phone to set up the 830, or just start from scratch? I've read of possible issues people have had using a backup?

Just curious what people have done. Thanks!

Depends what you "loose" if you do a fresh setup. Like chat backups, game levels etc.
And you always can start with a restore of your backup and if it's a mess just do a hard reset and start fresh.

I just set mine up fresh.

I don't like using a backup from one phone on another. It feels like putting on shoes that don't quite fit...

I used the backup. It was flawless and very convenient for me. Gonna do that every time in the future. It takes time but it's worth it.

Edit: FYI I restored my 1520's settings to my 830. I love that even my home screen arrangement, background photo, accent color, and ringtone were restored.

Thanks for the replies. I got my new 830 and decided to build it from scratch. It didn't take too long, and I liked doing it anyway. Feels more like a new phone.

I would describe it more as getting a brand new fresh turkey, but stuffing it with old used up mayonnaise

I set my 830 up from scratch and had a fantastic time doing it. If you upgrade to a new, stronger, better phone you don't dress it in the same old clothes as your last not-as-great phone. I still like completely redoing my phone's customization every few weeks to change up the look.

It all comes down to how much time you want to spend. The average person would probably want to arrange the screen the same way, otherwise they wouldn't have had the arrangement they had on their previous phone.

By restoring a backup you essentially 'set it and forget it.' Boom, all the customizations from your old phone are now magically on your new one with no effort. Others take joy in taking the time to do it all manually.

It's probably just superstition on my part but I've always gone with the fresh start. I usually have stuff on the phone I'd just as soon get rid of so it's easy to dump it while doing a reset. But, to each their own! At least we all have options when we do a reset.

Once I discovered how easy doing a hard reset was I've never really thought it was a huge inconvenience. But I keep all my stuff on the sd card and I don't play any games so my situation makes it easier still.
