So after reading some conflicting reports (and Microsoft is not helping matters) on whether users with older Surface machines will get all benefits from the new Surface Pen that owners of the new Surface Pro, I asked two prominent Microsoft experts (Peter Bright at Arstechnica and Brett Howse at AnandTech).

I've heard back from Peter Bright. He confirms that users of older Surface Pro 3 and 4 machines will probably get tilt functionality after a firmware update (eventually). Owners of the new Surface Pro already have the tilt functionality. This matches what I read previously.

As for the increased sensitivity, he's unsure. I'm sure he'll find out as he has a lot of contacts.

As for the latency, he said he was told that firmware updates may help out older Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4 owners, but that it won't match the latency improvements on the new Surface Pro. After all, the new Surface Pro has a new PixelSense accelerator processor.
