Hey there,

Basically I got the new BB Bold 9900 3 months ago and basically, it's not what I was looking for as I was moving over from WebOS (which I loved), and the lack of touchscreen functionality was terrible and basically boring.

I've decided to sell it and purchase a Windows phone under the same contract, but as I'm new to the scene theres a few things i wanna know :)

Apps: How good is the marketplace?

Variety: Which phone is seen as the best Windows Phone on the market right now?

Homebrew/hacking: I have a little inner nerd.. is any of that possible?

Operating system: How far into the cycle is Mango 7.5 and whens the next version due for release?

Thanks a lot guys :')

Apps: How good is the marketplace? There are 40000+ Apps. More than WebOS (I have a TouchPad). You'll find most of what you want.

Variety: Which phone is seen as the best Windows Phone on the market right now? I would say that depends, thats the beauty of Windows Phone. Samsung Focus S has SAMOLED, very sleak design. HTC Titan is huge (too huge for me) but has a great camera and is well liked, good build quality. The Nokia Lumia has free GPS software thats really good. Lumia 900 is the talked about phone being announced in January.

Homebrew/hacking: I have a little inner nerd.. is any of that possible? Everything is possible. Chevron will unlock the device so you can sideload apps/hacks.

Operating system: How far into the cycle is Mango 7.5 and whens the next version due for release? Mango was released in September. Next version is Tango which is out June or before. Should include more hardware support, LTE, dual core etc... and a video calling solution. All devices should get a pretty seamless upgrade. Mango was very seamless minus the one or two hickups.

Thats great, everything i needed, thanks a lot :) I guess it's just deciding between WP7 and android and going in store. I'm in the UK by the way and i'm not sure if all the phones mentioned are available here :(

HTC Titan and Nokia Lumia 800 are. I would ask if you need large or small screen. And if you need Front Facing Camera or not. Lumia 800 is only 3.7" and no FFC but otherwise a great device. HTC Titan is 4.7" and has FFC. The next Nokia is the Lumia 900 and is rumoured to have 4.3" and FFC. Should be annouced Jan.

Honestly it sounds like the Lumia 800 is too small, but the Titan sounds way too big, and the Lumia 900 sounds just right... I can't imagine it'll be very cheap unlocked on eBay when it's out though will it?

Tango is a minor upgrade and is due early next year. Apollo is the next big upgrade and that is due in the late summer or early fall.

There is also the Focus S, currently available, 4.3 inch screen, front facing camera, only 16gb storage.

HTC Titan is surely available in UK ...
I really suggest you to try it ;)

Please, do not buy Crappoid xD

I forget the name, but there is a Europe version of the Focus Flash, but not the Focus S. I want to say it is Omnia W. It is more of a mid-tier device, but it might be exactly what you're looking for--especially since you're buying mid-contract.
