This is another unlock question. I just bought an unlocked phone from eBay, a new one. Now, I just throw mt AT&T sim card in and that's it? Right? It will update automatically when mango is released?

Is it AT&T branded?

You'll need the Zune software and a PC to update it.

Unlocked just means you can put any GSM providers SIM card in it. Yes you can update it all you want whenever Zune tells you one is available. The update will NOT remove the unlock in case you're worried.

If you go to "Settings" and then "Phone Update" It should say your phone will check for updates, which you can install when you're at your computer.

Welcome! We'll always need a computer of one kind or another to access the providers' servers, AKA "the cloud".

Nice thought, but 15GB backups and 300MB updates don't work all that well with the cloud. Maybe with 6G, or 7. And "free" anywhere and everywhere data.
