Nice for news, horrible community

Just thought I'd find a section in the forums to say I enjoy coming here daily to see what's new in news or to find out something interesting.

But... as much as I want to be involved in the community (Insider program, or 950XL) forums- it's really...reaaaally depressing.
Not depressing as in, exaggeration, I really mean that it's really difficult and saddening to attempt to be involved.

Whether or not this is true, it seems as though user's are here just to rag on or put down the very things we (or maybe just me) came here to discuss.
And I don't think the "popular discussions" help (when there's enough negativity in one forum post that it makes it to the All Stories/main page).

Taking a step back- I'm coming to "windowscentral" the website, and I leave the forums, or close the webpage with a majority of what I've been exposed is...
"Microsoft sucks"
"Windows 10 phone sucks"
"Lumia 1520 sucks"
"Lumia 950 XL sucks"

There may be nothing that can change this, nor am I requesting anything be done about it, it's an observation since I've first found this community.
my feedback for the website.

You actually need to go though topics to find the positive threads which is kind of sad.

Unfortunately the negative nancies come out in droves and will always post more than those who are optimistic and positive. It is the world we live in now. Even if the subject asks for positive feedback only the negative nancies will be quick to respond. There are just too many negative people that have nothing good to do with their lives. They prefer to complain than to share and help others. Likely a downside of the Me generation.

That's actually an interesting perspective.

I was out at a bar one night, and there was a girl, maybe 21, or 22, and there was this topic in regards to lifestyle (can't recall specifics). Well, I did notice that a girl was very quick to add her opinion in a manner that seemed... just... it's difficult to explain.
It went something a long like; someone gave their "this is what I'm doing" statement and that girl chimed in something a long the lines of "that sounds miserable, terrible".
Now whether or not she was making a factual statement, or giving her opinion, which she's entitled to- it really hit me hard that I thought to myself "Wow, that is a really sad thing she internally feels right off the bat"

Maybe there's something specific, lack of constructive input or discussion, for example. Or maybe it may turn out to be something as simple as a generational difference. Hard to tell in an online forum for sure.

Agreed, it is saddening. Though, even making this observation from a user's perspective. I wonder what it's like from the moderators/admin's of this site.

And of course, I'm not hoping for all positive words from a forum, or for something to be done about my observation- but it's slightly amusing to find droves of "everything relating to windows sucks" at windowscentral website. (I'm exaggerating but you get my point lol)

Back to sifting through to "like" the constructive inputters lol.

Draft Post

As a whole, I think that dissent is good. Discussion is what we are about here in the forums. Discussion and diverse opinions on topics and issues that is.

Unfortunately, the internet is a place where opinion on topics sometimes devolves into opinion on the users commenting. That is where it gets a bit rough. It's sometimes more chaff than wheat and hard to separate the two.

Fortunately we have a team of Ambassadors who are tasked with making everyone feel welcomed here and a team of Moderators who are tasked with making sure everyone operates within our Community Rules & Guidelines.

There will always be topics that get heated debate. Windows 10 Mobile and, to a lesser extent, Windows 10 Desktop are each going through a bit of a controversial phase at the moment. Many users are not accepting, adapting to or liking the changes. As the OS iterations go through major sea changes it brings a bit of roughness to how they play out in real world application. Members of our community are reacting to this. Historically things have been more harmonious on the board. Bear with us. In the long run, I believe things will smooth out discussion-wise as the OS iterations settle in.

On the Ambassador front, I hope I have a Team that is positive and helpful. Personally, I find them all to be so. Many of them spend a great deal of their time here putting a positive spin on things drawn from their personal use experiences and the knowledge they earn researching topics to help members. And that is an important part of the forums, helping users solve issues. If some users aren't getting helped fast enough or are quick to vocalize their frustrations that is quite honestly an internet staple. I've seen many great users out there putting their advice, knowledge and positive attitude to work. If we pull together as a community we can ride this out. Posters who are filled with negativity will either get the help needed to smooth out their issues or will get tired of riding their hobby horse. Our goal as Ambassadors is to make everyone feel welcomed and to assist them in getting their issues solved. Some won't find the help or take it when offered, but as a community we all can still try to turn things around for these disgruntled users. Some will find and accept help and that is gratifying when we all can see an upswing in a user's viewpoint.

If a thread or post seems beyond salvaging or beyond your patience, feel free to skate on past it.

If a user seems to hold opinions you don't want to read, you may place them on your ignore list and their posts will not show for you on the forums unless you purposely click into them. Click on Settings at the top of any page and select General Settings.

Scroll down the left hand column and click on Edit Ignore List. Add any user names whose posts you no longer wish to read and they will not be shown to you.

And always remember, if a post appears to violate Community Rules, the Moderator team needs to know about it. We are not talking about a difference of opinion, but any posts which are excessively rude and antagonistic are not welcomed here. Posts that make personal references in an insulting way and are designed merely to start or prolong arguments are not allowed. Use the report button that appears at the top of every post in these cases.

Together we make a community. If the positive people withdraw, then the sum total becomes more negative. Hopefully the Ambassador Team is shedding some positive light around the forums and helping show the way forward to a better tomorrow...
