Hello fellow Nokians. As some of you know, the NL925 will be available on the 13th (AT&T), and I wanted to know a few things before I jump ship.
Been an iPhone user for about 3 years. I waited until yesterday to see what Apple brought to the table... wasn't impressed. So Im ready to jump ship. I want a Lumia and the 925 is the one I want. I know that the new "Bandit" is on the way, but that thing is too big for me. The Lumia 925 is perfect... for me!

So here it goes ...
Since I purchased a lot of music on itunes, will the Lumia be able to play them? If not, is there any way I can convert all my itunes music files into mp3?

I've been checking out Youtube, but I cannot find any videos on the speaker test. How is the speaker on the NL925? Will I be able to hear a text/call from another room?

I download a lot of movies from torrent sites. DL, plug in my iphone, transfer, and bam! Ready to watch (with a paid app of course). Does Windows support MKV? If not, is there an app for this? I don't mind paying for it.

Last and most important... how is battery life on this thing????

I hope some of you can help me out. I'm ready to jump ****. Thank you.

Hi, I'm sure other folks can chime in as well, but I will definitely give it a go. As far as iTunes files go, I think you can covert your music to mp3 directly in iTunes. I use a tool called EZCD DA Extractor which converts to/from anything.
I think the speaker on the 925 is great, I've never had problems hearing it.
Lastly, I would say battery life is standard. I charge nightly but it goes morning to night for me. I'm sure it depends on your individual usage.
I can't speak to mkv, sorry...
Just curious, though (I've never owned an iPhone). What about the new ones wasn't good?

I jumped ship a couple days ago, been an Android guy since day one I gotta say that I really love the new experience.WP got me.

As far as battery life goes phone has been of the charger for 20hrs and I still have 21% to play around. Most of my battery consumption came from 4-5 hours of Pandora, the rest just emails, txt and my usual tapatalk forums.

I must say that I'm really impressed with battery life so far.I do have glance set to off.

Some good advice on battery life here: Tip: How To Increase Your Lumia?s Battery Life : My Nokia Blog
also FAQ: FAQ - How can I prolong my battery life on my Nokia Lumia? - Nokia - USA

For me, the biggest contributor to extending my battery life, based on my typical usage, is using wifi where I have it (and obviously turning it off when I am in the car or just running around). I didn't really realize how much more using cellular data sucked up the battery. Probably old news to most, but the difference was a surprise to me.

ETA: I listen to a lot of books, downloaded podcasts, music, etc on my phone, surf quite a bit.

I bought a 925 after being with an iPhone for a year and a bit, and after a few days I'm very pleased and glad that I did!

With your iTunes music, I can't see why you wouldn't be able to sync it across, a quick google found this so it looks like you'd be good to go with that, but as emptyfish said, you could just convert it to mp3 too and copy across however you like.

Battery life is very good, for me at least, a lot better than my iPhone 4S. I have turned off double tap to wake and I didn't like the way glance was on all the time while charging so I've turned that off as well for the time being.

I haven't a clue with mkv support or video formats in general, need to check that for myself as well actually!

Thanks guys for your replies. I said, "hell with it, I'm doing it."
I pulled the trigger and should be getting it in 3 days.

Oooh the wait! Lol. Enjoy your upcoming phone. I know i did and still do

Trust me brother... Ever since I seen this phone back in July, I wanted it. I was getting tired with iOS (and iOS 7 doesn't impress me). I called AT&T and pulled the "cancel my contract" stuff. LOL. They were trying hard to sell me a SGS4, but I refused. Yes, it sucks that I have to wait until the 18th. I'm hoping that I get it by Saturday. Cross your fingers for me! Haha

As far as watching videos go, WP can support most formats, even DivX I believe (don't quote me on that) but I know VLC Media Player are working on a W8 and WP8 app for this kind of stuff.

There was a bunch of articles written by some of our writers on the first page (you can find them here) that should get you familiar with the OS as a whole.

As far as battery life goes remember the phones are Li-ion batteries so don't expect amazing performance from them straight away. You want to fully charge and then discharge (to about 10-15% - classed as a full charging cycle) once or twice and then try to keep your battery level between 20-90% in order to guarantee a healthy battery life. On my own 920 with heavy use I can get a funn 14-18 hours from it. With little use I can have the phone on standby for 3 full days!

Edit: Make sure you get the WPCentral app to keep up to date with the latest news and stories about apps and everything Windows Phone. You can even browse the forums on it on the go. I know that sounds like an advert but I genuinely found it useful when I was getting to know about WP8 and still do today. It's got an infinite trial, too.

Thanks for the tip. I was wondering abut the battery as well. Since my phone will be used for mostly calls and texts, I'm not really too worried. Maybe some music, but I decided that I can just watch my movies on my soon-to-purchase Surface RT.

I just switched from an iPhone 5 to a Lumia 925 a few days ago, also because of the iOS 7 and how I think Apple is slowly going down. I don't regret a thing, and I sure you wouldn't either. This phone is the bomb.

Anyway, in regards with iTunes, I'm not really sure, but I think if you're using a Mac, the "iTunes Sync" will work just fine. :)
With the battery, imho, it's a lot better than iP5. It lasts for more than 3-5hrs with the same usage.

Enjoy your new phone! :)

It's nice to see some former iSheep seeing the light! I was a iPhone user prior to getting on windows phone at wp7 release, and in fact, had that original phone until I recently received my 925. Excellent phone and OS.

In regards to your music - You can definitely sync iTunes music onto your Lumia 925 via the Windows/Mac desktop app. Secondly I would suggest using uploading your library to Google Music so even if you aren't synced physically you can still stream your library via CloudMuzik or any of the other GMusic players.
