I just realized that after I updated my Lumia 920 to WP8.1 Preview for developers,I can't press and hold in a text area to place the cursor whenever I want it to be,as I use to be since WP7. Now You can only place the cursor at the beginning or end of a word you can't place it in the middle of the word to change a specific letter.

Anyone else experiencing this after updating to WP8.1?

It works differently now. Now you can just slide after holding to move cursor. You will now see a small dot below the cursor and you can slide it using it. It's better than before for me.

Yeah seems that is how it is now and it's terrible. They should change it back or copy iOS.

Using it for five days and I still cannot get used to this.

Before it was so freaking easy. I was also able to tell where I was going to drop the cursor. Now it's a nightmare.

It's a step backwards. Before you could position the cursor anywhere you want, alot like with a mouse. Now you have to tap and drag it around.

Yeah, I do agree that the abilitiy to see where the cursor was being dropped clearly was great. They should combine both the features maybe.

This new way seems better. You still hold to place the cursor, but now you can drag it anywhere even after lifting your finger. More like how Surface works.

Actually, the new cursor controls were one of my favorite changes from the start.

Now you can just grab the cursor and move it wherever you want. You can tap in the middle of a word and hold for about half a second and the cursor goes straight to the middle of the word. Also, the cursor doesn't jump up several lines and scroll through your text when you start dragging it around. That caused me some minor annoyance that seems corrected now.

I had gotten used to the way it used to work, but so far the new implementation seems much better to me. I suppose it is to be expected that not everyone would agree.

Another case of Microsoft changing what doesn't need to be changing. They're wasting code I think. Instead of these ridiculous small changes Id like to see them fix Xbox Music. I'm very close to just getting an iPhone.

The new cursor is cool, the previous cursor was a pain in the ***. And you guys are saying it only comes at beginning and at the end but it can also pop up anywhere in the line where we tap. And also it comes immediately we don't have to wait for 2-3 secs.

I'm with the old method camp. The old way I could go anywhere with it, scroll up/down, get to end/beginning of a sentence/paragraph, anywhere fast. Now... I just want to scream and throw the phone.

I really wanted MS to take the phone cursor control to Windows touch, not the other way around.

The old method really differentiate it from iOS and Android.

You have to tap at the spaces between the words to get the cursor, if you tap the word out will be selected. And to drag the cursor anywhere just hold the blinking cursor(you don't have to hold the small bubble at the bottom of the cursor) and move it.

Yeah its weird that they changed this.i believe the old way is much easier to handle than trying to hit that sweet spot to move the caret. That being said, the new keyboard is much smarter now that rarely do I need to edit anything and I am using Word Flow which is amazing and very easy to use

I prefer the new cursor, the old one was a PITA. I expect a cursor that has me tap and hold to show it to be just above my finger, not about 10 cm away.
