No Jen Taylor in the UK

I noticed this evening google are worried about Cortina, they are now advertising there voice software on tv, the software and back end might not be as good as Cortina but what does jo public care or even no, Microsoft can't get it out the door internationally on devices let alone get a good set of ads on tv so already cortina is being relegated to just another gimmick

All I can say is I really hope there is an option to have Jen Taylor in the UK, otherwise it is a massive middle finger to the UK (and other English speaking countries outside the US) Halo fans.

It is all about choice. I believe WP users should be able to choose from a few different voice actors and not be forced to use just one.

It won't just be Halo fans using Cortana though. Average users won't care who voices the digital assistant on their Phone.

That's true, of course. But do you think it means we'll miss out on the Halo references in chit-chat, too? It seems a shame for her to become something totally different. Cortana is meant to have more personality than other phones' AI, too. I just wonder whose personality we'll be given, if not Cortana's from Halo.

Is there even any confirmation that they're going to use a voice actress for the UK at all? They'll probably just use the old TellMe voice with the English accent.

This is what drives me nuts about Americans, they think there is a British accent... there is NO British accent. There, is jordie, scouse, manc, west country, brizzle, cockney, norfolk, brummie, various welsh accents from cardiff to the valleys, numerous scottish accents (provided they stay in Britain come september) and hundreds in between.

What Americans think is a British accent is the older style upper crust Etonian Queens English that very few people actually speak with.

Like wise I don't assume there is one American accent, hell there are a number of accents in New York alone!

So get it through your thick skulls MS don't assume every one will accept what you consider a British accent. I used the UK Siri and changed to the US Siri when I had an iPhone because the "British" version sounded like a pretentious *****.

Was reading about the Chinese version in other WPC forum, it's better in all areas than the UK version.

Why? To satisfy the small minority of Halo players? I don't play it, I know four others WP owners who don't game. It means nothing to the vast majority of people. I bet there's actually thousands of Halo players who have no idea who she is - it's only through this Cortana tie-in she's become more of a mainstream name. I thought she was a porn actress.

Best pick a recognisable voice to help promote the platform in the UK.

"Cortana with Jen Taylor!" - Who?
"Cortana with Sheryl Cole!" - I'll have a bit of that.
