Hello guys,

I bought my 920 from AT&T and got it unlocked to use on T-Mobile. It was working great. I have LTE signal in lots of places. So basically, I've been using this device on T-Mobile since I bought it.
Now I was tired of the device been restricted with some functions not available due to AT&T ROM. I flash it using instructions from this site. First to Rogers 820 then to 821_eu_French.
Everything looks great. I got all my backup back and apps. But the one thing I noticed was that I don't have LTE anymore on T-Mobile. When I go to cellular, the highest data it gave me was 4G.
How can I get the LTE back on it? And please this is not an hardware restriction because I was using it on T-Mobile's LTE band before and it worked great.

Another thing that crossed my mind was I noticed after I flashed it to 821, my OS says I have Windows 8.0. I could have sworn that on the AT&T rom I had before, I update the OS to Windows 8.1. I've check for updates using Phone updates and it keep saying I have the latest but that is not right when we all know the latest is 8.1.

Then is there a 821 international ROM? I would have preferred that instead of the French 821 rom. I mean, for example, if I buy the phone unlocked here in the USA, which ROM comes with it. Is that available to Flash the phone with.

Thanks for your time.

Have you done a speed test? FYI 4G means LTE everywhere else besides the USA.

If that's the case, before I flashed it, why does it shows E, 3G, 4G and LTE in different places. Before, it shows me 4G in some area and some areas, i have LTE.

Don't worry, your phone is fine, you are just the victim of marketing.
Inside the US phones are designed to show 3.5g or HSPA+ speeds as 4g on the cell units display and true 4G/LTE (as a previous poster said, they are the same) will show as LTE on your phone. Now that you have a ROM that was designed for phones not being sold directly into the US, your phone handles things a little differently. Phones designed for sale in the rest of the world will show 3.5g speeds as 3g and true 4g/LTE as 4g. So before you flashed the phone, when you thought you were getting 4g coverage it is likely you were getting 3.5g coverage and when it showed LTE you were getting genuine 4g speeds/coverage. Now that your phone is on a non US ROM it makes no distinction between 4g and LTE

Stephen,

That was a good explanation. Thanks for it. Is there any USA ROM that is not AT&T or any internation ROM that is not specific to any carrier just like the one you'll get in you buy the phone on Amazon?

And why haven't the phone shows that Windows 8.1 is available yet. That was what I had on AT&T ROM.

You're welcome, im not an expert on ROMs sorry, I have never flashed a phone myself and probably wouldn't be brave enough to on any phone I actually needed to use again :-). I'm more of a hardware guy than a software guy.
There are plenty of people on this forum that know heaps about it, hopefully one of them will pick this up and point you in the right direction.

lots to read about flashing French Amber rom or Rogers Amber rom here, (or any other rom) You will find that you will not see LTE with the French rom. I myself flashed to Rogers Amber rom. There is no carrier boot logo, however it is tied to Rogers. Works fine on US-ATT.
btw. the latest is GDR3. There is no Windows Phone 8.1 available yet. It's in testing phase. There is Windows 8.1 though. Or you may get a developer device that was mistakenly sold on ebay with WP8.1...
With the code of your phone you can find roms that you can flash to it. A list of codes is here.
Then enter your product code here to download the latest available rom to flash with NCS. Instructions are in the first link above.
PS: a speedtest using an app like SpeedTest reveals that there is absolutely no difference in up/down speeds whether the phone is on French Amber Rom using 4G, Rogers Amber Rom on LTE or ATT Amber rom LTE.
It's just naming the bands differently as posted in previous posts above.

When I flashed my 920 to the european rom it said it was 4G but doing speed test it was slow in the 6 mbit/sec range for download and about the same for upload. I re-flashed it with the at&t developers rom and now I am back to my normal speed of 38 kbit/sec and 12 mbit/sec upload. So there was something that at&t didn't like about the radio frequency the european rom was using.

Where can I get the AT&T developer's ROM? Is this different from the normal AT&T ROM that came with the phone?

As suggested above, i would suggest flashing to the Rogers ROM, you get LTE + Data Sense (which TMOUS supports) + the Rogers ROM is rock stable on the ATT 920 (personally tried & tested). The ATT/Rogers Dev ROM are a bit unstable and have connection issues.

So this will be the first Roger ROM 820 I first flashed it to from AT&T before I then reflash it to the French ROM. As the instructions says, I flashed it to Rogers then flash it to eu_French. So I should have left it at Rogers?

yep, you could have left it at Rogers and then OTA all the way to Amber/GDR2 and the upgrade to GDR3.
But you can flash directly to Rogers Amber/GDR2 from where you are at the moment.
Download the Rogers Amber/GDR2 rom from link above (the on where you input your code) or through NCS using these codes
Code:
059R2L8 RM-820 VAR AMERICA CA ROGERS SL YELLOW
059R3R8 RM-820 VAR AMERICA CA ROGERSWIR SL RED
059Q6W4 RM-820 VAR AMERICA CA ROGERSWIR SL BLACK
059R6P3 RM-820 VAR AMERICA CA ROGERSWIRE SL WHIT

It won't let me flash it back to RM-820 Rogers. Its saying the ffu file is not meant for this device.

Are you flashing the Rogers amber/gdr2? That should work. I've seen people report that Rogers preportico will not flash with same error you have.

I tried to flash it with the one of those ones you surgested above and I was getting invalid signature.. Then when I flashed it with the original I flashed it with from AT&T before I then go to eu_france, it would not flash to that Rogers again. It's giving me ffu file is not meant for this device.

Sorry to hear that. I was aware of people not able to flash to pre portico and portico. I myself was able to flash between French amber, Rogers amber and att dev (amber) at will. Seems there is something with the particular rom you used that locked it. One other possibility is that the NCS is outdated. Make sure you use latest or recent.
Ps. Don't forget to click the thanks button for those who tried to help you.

Finally found out what the problem is. When you download the ROM from mrcrab.net, it download it with a prefix on the name of the file. You have to delete the prefix from the file name.
You do this for all the 11 files for the ROM.

In that case, I was able to flash the phone with the Roger ROM but I got into another issue. When the phone comes on, it doesn't see my T-mobile service until I go through the initialization of the phone, in this case I was unable to restore my phone since Microsoft does not let you use your wi-fi at the beginning of the initializaion of the phone. Another thing was while waiting to get on the network, after few minutes, the phone starts shutting itself down and restarting. I had to reflash it back to the french ROM.

I was tempted to use the ATT developers ROM but since you someone say it's not stable, I think I'll stay with the french ROM. I'm just having issues with the french ROM. I can't use data and phone calls at the same time. For example, when I'm a phone call, the apps that use the data network stop working. I would have thought they will use the wi-fi but they dont. And even not while i'm on 4G.

Yes, the CRC codes have been explained in detail in the other thread and I even showed pictures of what the folder has to look like when you flash. Since we didn't know where you got your roms from chances that somebody could know your issue are slim. Always good to post screen shots with the error. It would have been quite obvious that you still had the CRC codes in the filenames. Sorry and good to hear your got it going.
If you read the initial post in the other thread by Juan you will see that the issue with restore is explained in there with a hint to MS to better fix this soon.

I do not know whether any of this will work on T-Mobile, but on ATT one of the first things you have to install is Access Point to get anything to work with networking.

The shutting down and restarting is odd. It should work fine whether it's T-Mobile or att. I know that it's always a good idea to reboot after a flash anyway.

Here is the link with what it should look like.
