no sound and no videos play

so no sound plays at all on my phone and no video will play it keeps saying this type of file cannot be played on your phone I've used the software recovery tool to flash the phone anybody know what's wrong?

also any app that uses sound like other music players or my tube or voice recorder will crash as soon as they're opened

It's probably missing a codec. Do a search in the store for codec packs. It could be the phone, itself malfunctioning.

I see nothing in the store that says codec packs you mean the windows phone store right?

I've done like 3 hard resets and no change even updating to 8.1 the volume controls don't appear to worsen it

If you have Windows 10 try use Codec Packs app from the Windows Store. Try play your files via this app. It can help.
