Nokia Lumia 920 Black update - UKEE

Hi, N_LaRUE thanks for the reply. Just tried it and i sill have the same error "the update was downloaded but couldn't be opened" Do you have any more advise? Thanks

@Racing Snake

Thanks for that.
I actually think I read somewhere, maybe on this site, that it is dependant on the hardware on your phone. I bought mine around Dec 2012. I'd hate to have to download the OTA and I didn't get that.
Does everybody have the icons?

Don't have them on my 920.

It was an unlocked EE 920 but last week I flashed the CV Rom on to it.

I think it must be ROM specific. I'll no doubt do an OTA sooner or later and see then.

I've got those indicators on my phone. It's an EE 920 and running the EE Black Update. However, EE's not my network, I'm using a Virgin Mobile Sim in it, which runs off the same network.

To be honest I don't think you're missing out much by not having them. The little arrow seems to be always flicking on and off, even on the lock screen, so it looks like it responds to even tiny amounts of data going through the phone.

I think it's just the feeling of missing out. Plus, I'm currently hitting 13% battery drain. Like to find who the culprit is!

Yep, I'm a bit like that, even if I'm not going to use a feature all that much, it's still nice to have it.

I'm noticing a bit more battery drain since going to Black. Not sure whether this is because I'm using a couple of new apps recently or whether it's Black. Battery is defnitely going down quicker than it used to though. I'll see how I get on next week and keep an eye on it.

Is it safe to factory reset now? Or will it brick the phone?
Thanks
From what I've read, this is down to a wifi issue on the phone. Is it set to "Keep WIFI on when screen times out"?

And a factory reset is unlikely to cure your problem but you do realise you will lose all your phones Data?
Instead of a factory reset, you may want to install Nokia Software Updater for retail 4 which is a very simple to use program to flash your phone.
Because the Data package in your phone is likely corrupt in some way, factory resetting will reintroduce the same problem NSU will give you the latest update only, which should be Black.

Sorry to bump an old-ish thread. I'm waiting on the 920 update for Three, but my patience is wearing thing. I'm thinking of flashing the CV GB onto the phone, as I don't want to wait this long for 8.1 or any other future updates either.
A couple of questions:
  • Does LTE on Three work OK with CV GB ROMs?
  • Does flashing to a new ROM affect future OTA updates? I don't want to have to manually flash any other updates and lose all my settings each time.
  • Do I lose anything by flashing to CV? I don't really care about the Three Hub.

Cheers!

Three have been extremely slow on the 920 for some reason. I know the frustration of waiting being on EE, but they were actually pretty good this time around, but it's never nice knowing that most other models have already got the update and you haven't.

Looking forward, you could still get the WP8.1 update before Three release it, by installing it through the Developer Preview method, which I and many others will do. However, for firmware, if you didn't flash your phone, you'd still be waiting on Three for Nokia firmware updates, but at least you'd get the OS updates way before Three dish them out.

I can't say for sure as I'm not on the Three network, but I wouldn't think it would make any difference

You'll get all future updates fine, both OS and Firmware. In fact you will usually get them quicker, as carriers often take longer to validate the update. You wouldn't wait for any carrier to approve the update if you were on the CV ROM. That would be just down to Microsoft to enable it to be downloaded from their servers for your Model in your Country.

Again, as I don't have a branded Three 920, I can't say for sure. However, many people like unbranded phones rather than carrier branded ones. My 920 is an EE model (I purchased it Used), although I must say my last few phones I've purchased new and unbranded (SIM Free), as I tend to prefer my phones unbranded. I just happened to get a good deal at the time with my 920.

Cool, good to hear from folks who've got the unbranded ones. That's my project for tonight sorted then!

Mind you, it's only a 10 minute project!
I did mine and I had my EE phone unlocked so can confirm 4g does work when a 3 SIM on it.
Since then, I've gone back to EE firmware and will stick on the Dev Preview when 8.1 comes out.
