Nokia Lumia 920 turns off by itself

I work with sales on mobiles, and I tested out a Nokia Lumia 920. It was strange to get used to at first. First off all I thought it was way to heavy and felt to big. When it comes to your problem I did have the same problem after installing both Skype and Nokia Drive Beta. The funny thing is that the mobile works great the first few hours after a hard fakctory resett. But after a few hours use (and a few more apps installed) It stopps working and shuts off. But like all new operating systems from Microsoft it takes a few patches before things works out. If I where you I would start looking: Software update for Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone 7.8 - Nokia just for starters. Good luck, im back to my good old android again lol

I had the exact same issue with my first Lumia 920. Tried almost every solution under the sun, hard-reset multiple times, reconfigured multiple times. Then thought it might resolve with Portico, but that didn't help either...The phone shutdown periodically during sleep, and the only way to turn it on was to soft reset. This led me to believe the issue was hardware-related. After the phone's three visits to the service shop, I got a brand new replacement. In two weeks, there hasn't been one freeze. The phone is heavily used with location services, Nokia Drive+, wireless charging, WhatsApp, Wi-Fi, etc. I should also add that there were 4-5 weeks between the two phones' procurement, plus, the new phone came with Portico pre-installed. So we are talking about different production lots.

I found this site (translated) which confirmed my "It must be hardware-related" theory:

Lumia geht einfach aus und nur ?ber Softreset wieder an Seite 14 - Nokia Lumia 920 - Windows Phone 8 Forum

My previous IMEI was 354149050950xxx which is at the top of the list given on the German forum.
My new IMEI is 354149054927xxx, which is at the bottom.
(The first 8 digits are TAC - Type Allocation code, and the rest of the digits are your unique identifier)

So those of you having this problem check to see if your IMEI codes confirm the theory.

Mine was switching off every night, till I uninstalled accuweather and battery tile. 7 days now running with no issues.

Does anyone have problems when turning bluetooth on after about 20 seconds of messing around with my phone while bluetooth is on it freezes and restarts
YES!
I am on my third Lumia 920 and everyone of them do this:
If I am connected to my in car Bluetooth(jeep uconnect) and have internet sharing on at same time it will freeze up when I get out of car, Bluetooth disconnects. If I am using internet sharing while listening to audio over Bluetooth through car stereo, music skips and pops and stops playing and starts again, its horrible. If I am just streaming audio over Bluetooth I get random pops and skips continuously. Its not an app because it was doing this on a clean install no apps and a third brand new phone. This is my only issue with this phone!!

I have an 822 and when in mu car with Bluetooth if I am listening to a podcast and get a call or txt once I finish the txt my phone reboots everytime. I'm not too sure why it does it.

1. Turn off your phone and take out the sim card with the sim card key
2. Look inside the sim card hole in the phone, there should be a holder/tray inside
3. Use the sim door key to adjust the holder/tray by dragging it gently upwards until it stops
4. Place the sim card with the unit in this holder/tray and put it as gently as possibly back in
5. Turn your phone back on.

That or this helped me, before froze every day, now over 4 days without freezes:

I removed the SIM, then turned up the phone and left it on for 10 minutes (I read that when the "no sim" message appears, some files are supposed to be deleted, and written again when the SIM will be put back in the handset and recognized as new).
Then I shut it down, inserted the SIM back, and turned it on.

These two small fixes has helped me as well, i?m currently on my 4th day without freezes.
I have owned this phone since December and have been struggling with battery drain and freezes since then, i really hope this will end now cause i love the phone.

Try uninstalling Skype if you have it. I had continuos brick problems with my 920, charging overnight or wirelessly and finding it dead.
Uninstalling Skype solved all my problems.

Just update your firmware to 1232.5957.1308.00xx - it will fix it ... and if you are not willing to do it, then disable Wi-Fi, when you do not use it ...

I found what's causing the problem (in my case). Apparently if you tap the bottom right corner of the phone slightly, it turns off. It happens if you drop it as well (I'm talking like 1-2cm, nothing that 'should' break it). I tried this a bit and it does it every time. I think it's safe to say that it's a hardware problem... At least on 'my' Lumia 920.
