The 900 is already great in bright sunlight, so it is terrific to see Nokia improving on that feature in the 920.

The Nokia Lumia 900 is the first device I've owned that was visible in bright sunlight. I am able to see the screen without cupping my hand over the screen to shade the device from the sun, and I am able to see the screen while wearing sunglasses.

That video was sloppily done. Reality is I can view my L900 screen in bright Florida sunlight. That's a fact Jack. Couldn't say that about any other phone or PDA I have ever owned.

The Lumia 900 is only visible if you crank up the brightness to "max" and turn off the auto dim. With autodim on, it's no more legible than any other phone.

ahhh that was one thing I wasn't sure on.

turning up and turning off auto dim isn't something I would do myself just because I like a good lasting battery.

Remember that Lumia 920 is supposed to have that automatic 'extra brightness' mode that will activate when in direct sunlight. It is supposed to have extra 20% of brightness not available by user adjustment and some color correction algorithms (probably oversaturating them on purpose as colors tend to look washed out in direct sunlight).

I can't see my screen when in direct sunlight. But I've never tried high brightness. Didn't even know about extra 20% brightness.

All Windows Phones have a High Contrast mode. It will just max the bright settings and give you black tiles with a white background. It should make things more legible.

I don't know about you guys, but my 900 never worked in the sun with autodim on. I had to turn it off and crank up the brightness to max. Even then, it was only marginally better.

Marginally better is still better. Hence why they chose it as a bullet point, my Optimus 7 at it's brightest actually hurts me eyes and it can be seen "nice" on the beach but that's not real world use and it will drain the battery fast. I tend to just ignore that visibility thing as it's just marketing that won't have any real world use.

I always have trouble seeing my iPhone 4's screen in bright sunlight, so I can't wait to compare it to my WP8 Nokia phone when I get it.

Just to clarify, the extra 20% is something Nokia is doing with the 920, not the 900.

thanks, I would have stood out in the sun for an hour trying to get it to work on my 900.
