Nokia Windows 8 tablet in 2012?

i understand that the words tablet and slate are used lightly.

i also understand that you don?t understand that all i was saying is * what we are going to have with the WP8 slates is different from what your showing me or what MS had out before. * (like the HP Pavilion tx1000 laptop or Asus Transformer tablet pc )

PS. (HP Pavilion tx1000) If you go on the HP website they call it a NOTEBOOK , I trust HP`s OFFICIAL web site over your PC world Reporters ( no offence ) cause they normaly get the info from official sites and reps.

HP Pavilion tx1000 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

.. sooo any new laptops with touch screen is a Tablet PC ? your saying or MS is saying.. any touch screen with a keyboard...... so any high end laptops .....

Yeah so the word tablet and slate are used lightly.

How bout we just agree to disagree

Laptop Mag as well had the successor to the tx1000, the tx2000 defined as a Tablet PC. I think one of the reasons HP doesn't define it as such is because you could have gotten the device without the touchscreen. The Dell Latitude XT3 is considered by Dell to be a "Tablet PC". If you just look at the device you will see that it is identical in form factor the the tx1000. Tablet PC IS used loosely, HOWEVER it is defined by Microsoft which again is why they are going to define slate differently to distinguish from the two so that way when you go to the store you won't be confused by everything being under the umbrella of Tablet PC and there would be that differentiation.

And of course it is going to be something different than what we had before because it will have Windows 8 and the ecosystem that comes with it. Again, I am not arguing that Windows 8 will not bring something revolutionary to our lives in the idea that it will work across a wide range of devices and you will have uniformity across devices. All I was trying to do was simply point out that there isn't anything that is unique to the slate in terms of what software wise it will offer. Any desktop or laptop will be able to run Windows 8 and run all of those types of Xbox Live games and Windows software. The reason I am pointing it out is so that those who don't like tablets (slates) should not have to feel that they are missing out on something by not purchasing one. And I don't think they are besides having a touchscreen interface.

I would love to see a Nokia designed ultrabook with LTE support day 1 purchase i dont need a tablet if I have a phone

I myself am actually waiting this even more than to pick up my Lumia 800 Cyan next month. I love the tablet W8 UI and i use ipad 2 a lot. Just want more from a tablet and W8 seems to offer that.
Really waiting forward to see Nokia's take on ~10" tablet, slate, whatever you guys wanna call it. ;) Just hopefully it will be on sale around Q3 next year.

Btw these Win 8 slates are going to cost $1000+ here in Denmark so stop the whining because of 200 bucks :-)

Tell me about it. :D If Nokia was to release sexy looking 64GB or more memory 10inch screened high end tablet for 699€($926), i would consider that cheap.

I want a nice nokia w8 tablet or slate or ultrabook or transformer like asus. I would prefer a transformer type tablet because I like the keyboard dock but I like to surf the web laying down on the bed or couch. When I surf I like the tablet form.

am i asking to much?? :P :P :P

I feel like I'd want an x86/x64 based slate because I am betting that there won't be too many WinRT apps yet available at launch. So it would be nice to have what is basically a full laptop computer that is backwards compatible with everything.

The parts that make me somewhat hesitant are the price, battery, and heat.

With an x86/x64 based processor, I'm guessing the prices will be around $200 more expensive than the ARM based slates.

The x86 processors aren't as efficient as ARM based processors because x86/x64 never turn off. I believe that all cores will continue to run. ARM based processors can stop when not in use.

x86/x64 based processors can get hot. So there will likely be a fan built in. And you won't want to just lay it on your pillow and use it for a few hours since there won't be good air circulation. Just like a laptop.

The pros though...

FAST and POWERFUL
Full backward compatibility with other Windows programs
With a docking station, it can replace a desktop/laptop for regular computer use.

Intel is actually starting to do some nifty things with their processors. Hopefully they'll start to be able to get them to run cooler. Because the need of a fan is sort of a big issue.

And some ARM processors are getting pretty powerful. Sure, they're not going to be used for anything hardcore. But it's not like I personally would be able to use any slate, even with a docking station, as a desktop replacement. Since I need more power than they can provide.
