Notification volumes

It seems like the notification volumes (like a chime for incoming texts) are just set to whatever the master volume is at. So if you were rocking out in your car to music at high volume then later get a text in a meeting you'll hear DING DING! If you set the notification volume at "5" will it "stick" or it just always defaults to the master volume?

This is a problem and also the volume for music is the same nonsense,if you have on headphones listening to music that volume stays the same for everything even when you unplug the headphones which is bad. Notifications & media should have seperate volume levels like other phones.

This is a..umm..'feature'..of windows phone 7, not a mistake by nokia. its pretty annoying, especially when coming from other devices that allow granular control over volume settings. Its been a pretty big complaint, i'd imagine Microsoft will fix it in winphone8, but who knows. I've gotten used to it.

Thanks all for the answers, new to WP7 so still learning some of these "features". Good to know it just wasn't that I couldn't figure it out! Hopefully Apollo remedies this as I agree this is basic functionality every phone should have.
