Notifications Lumia 521

I have a Lumia 521. Sometimes I won't make it to my phone in time to see why my phone beeped at me (text message, notification, etc.) Where do all of these notifications go so I can see what I missed? I can't find them anywhere!

If you have 8.1 installed, you can swipe down from the top to get to the notification center. The most recent will be listed there.
