Now imagine if Microsoft made dev accounts free

I think that it would probably just mean millions of crap fart apps in the short term. In the long term it would mean more ios and android apps appearing, which is a good thing.

Overall it will help, but its not essential.

I think a yearly ?10 subscription model with free app and update publications would be better. Also, easier xbl inclusion.

It would be helpful for small indie devs, but it wouldn't make much difference to big companies. The big companies don't care about the cost of dev accounts; they are more interested in market share of Windows Phone in general when they decide if bringing an app already available for iOS/Android to Windows Phone is worthwhile.

Well having exclusive indie games would be good right? There's a lot of undiscovered devs out there.

They would probably figure $25 is worth reaching millions millions more customers with android than WP

I totally agree with Kellzea in the first part of its post, but totally disagree with the second parts of it.

Free subscriptions would mean that everybody will have access to the market, so there would be a lot of people creating apps just for fun, submitting crappy useless apps like soundboards, hot pictures albums, mobile websites embedded, etc.
And the actual cost of 19$ is more than affordable for anyone, so we would not gain any new good developer making the subscription free.

Actually, I think that 19$ is too cheap to keep away inexperienced kids from submitting stupid apps...
(I provide assistance in the msdn italian wp developing forum and recently the questions posted has reached an embarrasing level)

Well dream spark give free account to kids and student's and 19$ is kinda nothing for one year. I have seen average people throwing 19$ in the drain
