Now that I've installed Windows 10, why can't I turn on my wifi?

Since I installed Windows 10 a few days ago, I haven't used my wifi, but now I find I can't turn it on. At the time of installation the f12 (wifi) key on my HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook was in the off position. Now it won't respond, and I can't turn wifi on any other way. The greyed-out box in the lower right hand corner won't respond (though the airplane mode will). When I'm in Settings: Network & Internet, the slider keeps going back to off. Can't turn it on under Network and Internet: Network Connections, and have already tried disabling and enabling the Wireless Network Connection. Under Manage Wi-Fi settings is some stuff about Wi-Fi Sense, which I'm not interested in -- hope this is not a ploy to make me use it!

Any ideas, aside from resetting the computer? Thanks!!!

I have the same problem. I assumed either my wifi had gone out(coincidence) or Windows 10 drivers... its also a HP Pavilion DV6 with amd chipset with Realtek wifi adapter. I have tried rolling back, updating drivers, uninstalling adapter reinstalling adapter...to no avail.

I'm having the same issue with my dell laptop wifi was working just find then all of a sudden it went out now I can't turn it back on. I did a clean install on that laptop so their shouldn't be any issue with old drivers or what not.

Have you guys tried grabbing the drivers from your manufactures websites? I'd try that first as that was the same issue I was having and installing the drivers from ASUS fixed my Wifi card. See if that helps at all.

Thanks for your advice, but I have sad news.

On the HP site, it says that if a computer was purchased before August 2013, and has Windows 10, you can get NO software updates through HP now. You have to wait for Windows to fix the problem, or not. Alternative is to go back to your previous operating system. Now, go to hell. (I added that last part.)

We tried...that's all you can do.

Here is my experience with Wifi as I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Before the upgrade, I had disabled the WiFi to make sure it was using the Ethernet instead. The icon for the device was still there in Network Adapters, but it was showing disabled. After the upgrade, Windows 10 could not find my wifi. As I kept installing the drivers for the NUC computer, it never found the hardware. It would give me the message "No hardware found for this driver".

I reverted back to Windows 7 (we have one month to do this), then it found the device after I installed the driver. I made sure the device was enabled. After upgrading back to Windows 10, everything worked. Although it was a bummer to go rollback, I found no other way. It works great now. Your issue may be entirely different, but good luck.

Hey Everyone...

What worked for me was to uninstall the Wifi card driver in Device Manager and immediately restart Windows 10. The "Wifi Capability is Off" message is gone and I can now connect to Wifi Networks!
