If anyone has a problem with WP7, then they've never used WebOS or Android. I have to give iOS credit, it's pretty nice and smooth. I just like WP7 unique approach.

I'm pretty happy with Mango, but it isn't game changing. That's not a negative - I didn't expect it to be game changing. It's changed WP7 from a good mobile OS to a great mobile OS - but it's still WP7 and still has its quirks, as do all OSs. But I think some people did expect it to be revolution not evolution, and that's why there's some negativity about. Purely on functionality alone, not looking at apps available, installed user base etc., it's now very much a level playing field. And that's a good starting point to build on and address the areas where WP7 is still behind (no. of apps, game quality and so on).

It's a nice, solid OS update that brings WP7 in line with iOS and Android. It's now arguably better in some ways than them, arguably still worse in others, but now much of that will be down to taste rather than genuinely missing features like multitasking (for example, I still prefer Google to Bing for web searching and would love to be able to set Google as the default browser search engine while leaving the dedicated search key as Bing for Local Scout, barcode scanning, translations etc. - best of both). Though I'd be wary about calling people out for things like iOS looking stale. WP7 doesn't look stale because it's much newer - but MS are clearly sticking with Metro and putting metro everywhere, so we might all be yearning for a change too not too far down the line!

What I'm interested in is to see where WP7 goes from here, and when the next major OS update lands, as the OS itself doesn't need a lot of work now other than tinkering/cosmetic stuff. I'd be really surprised if there wasn't some sort of spec bump, and then all current-gen devices would be reclassed as legacy (i.e. unsupported/limited support for future upgrades - but then they'd probably be 3+ years old by then so no real surprise), all mango devices as last-gen (fully supported this upgrade, perhaps dropping to legacy with the next if it's another major one), and all new ones as the new base level. It'll also be interesting to see how it's main comepetitors (re)act, and vice versa. I'm expecting iOS 6 to be a major revamp in look, ice cream sandwich is a visual overhaul for Android (I don't like it, but it is a change) and a lot of the Android OEMs are updating their skins now too (e.g. the new look HTC Sense). And if Amazon do buy Web OS, things could get *really* interesting!

What do you think?

Here are some of my thoughts:
- Very few apps have been updated to take advantage of Mango, and even fewer apps have been released that use the new APIs. Disappointing...
- While I do like some of the changes they've made, they have also went a couple steps backwards when changing the interface for ie9. No more fullscreen, too many steps to change tabs/add favorites, and lack of find in page really frustrates me.
- Using the phone with battery saver off is not a good idea, battery drains way too fast when using multi-tasking.
- Bing sucks, I hate that I have to use google for everything like searching/maps.

This is pretty much my rant thread, but I have thought about it a lot over the past week and I just don't see Mango adding enough features or fixing enough problems for me to stay on wp7. I think I'm going to buy an iphone 5 :(

I have 30 apps minimum that have already updated to Mango. If you have some numbers on how many apps have been released that use the new APIs, I'm sure we'd all be interested. Considering that Mango was just released, I'm not sure we're quite ready to complain about that yet. By the way, apps that haven't updated to Mango don't die when multi-tasking, they just take a whole second to start back up instead of instantly. What apps were you looking for when you mention the New APIs?

Changing tabs is 2 clicks. As is Add to Favorites. Find would be a nice feature, I agree, though I rarely search through a web page on mobile.

My battery lasts all day, but you have our own experiences. Remember the manufacturer's battery life is not necessarily a Mango issue. These are OEM products. If you can trace battery life to the OS release, let's notify Microsoft.

Bing has been excellent for me in Maps and has been mostly good in generic search. However, if you like google maps and search, you can pin maps.google.com to your start screen or add it to your favorites (use 'classic' mode since their mobile sucks).

I've been on Mango for a few months, too. The RTM is better than the beta, it has more features and is more stable for me.

By the way, if you left off the 'iphone5' comment, people would have been more appreciative of your criticisms.

Having had my teeth into Mango for a while now, I'm happy to say that it's everything I wanted out of this update. Sure, that doesn't mean I don't want more. I do. I want more... more features, more apps, etc... I just appreciate that it takes time to make these things happen.

The first thing to hit me was how much more responsive the touch pad was on my HTC. I can finally speed-unlock my device without entering the password incorrectly. The second thing I noticed was how much faster the OS is. It's just so loose and doesn't feel bogged down.

Multitasking is a treat, but I tend to find myself being anal about having multiple windows open in the background that I'm not using.

The people hub has to be the one thing that really stood out for the right reasons. I love the contact groups (and being able to pin them), and their live tiles. Having one feed for social interactions is also very user friendly. The "Me" live tile has a lot more importance now.

Threads - awesome. No one can escape me now! mwuhahaha, although I'm undecided about leaving myself "online" on Facebook as I keep getting random messages throughout the night saying things like "Ohh, you also can't sleep?". :D I haven't used the voice recognition whilst on the headset, but I look forward to trying it out when the opportunity arises.

Bing. I've fallen in love with Bing and the Mango services it offers. The speech and camera technology really do make searches easier. The maps and eat+drink/see+do/etc are uber-cool. I also find myself taking pictures of random text and translating it to languages I don't really understand for the **** of it, when I'm bored. hehe :O

Apps. I immediately downloaded Whatsapp and look forward to getting my hands on Skype and Spotify. It's also nice to see the Skydrive listed in Office. Xbox Live is running so much sweeter! Overall, it's pleasing to see the devs acknowledging this OS.

Generally, I love the subtle touches made in Mango. The tweaked music bar and font size adjustments in certain screens. WP may still have a hill to climb, but it's hands down the sexiest OS around. They've got the basics right, and for me, that's KEY.

The only thing niggling me at this stage is my battery life. It would be nice to see a task/power manager implemented for users who wish to preserve their battery when they know they'll be away from a charging point for a long period of time.

Is wp7 bad? No, its great actually. On the other hand, it's like a mentally challenged Olympic winner, why are we praising wp7 for beating android when android is beating itself. The real competition is iOS, it isn't perfect but it is definitely better than wp7 right now. Seeing how long it takes for MS to update, i can't stay with wp7 another year to find out that it's not going to be any better than it is now.

So flame me, say that you never had any negative thoughts about wp7 or mango, tell me that this forum is better off without me. Wp7 is failing, now that Ive seen mango in its official state I can say that wp7 will never hold more than 10% of the market share.

Don't think you'll get flamed ryude, you don't like WP7 that's it, simple, enjoy your iPhone. Plenty do.

My last phone was Iphone 4, i've gone the other way and never looked back. (Only thing i miss is Talking Tom)

We all have a choice, and in my opinion I made the right choice to leave my iPhone.

I use my WP7 way more than i ever did with the iphone and it's like i still have a new toy after nearly a year with it. I didn't do that with my iPhone.

Just saying. :)

I think the iphone is really neat and I certainly don't fault anyone from wanting one. I just like the speed and smoothness mango offers with the facebook and twitter integration, along with bing. IOS does have apps that can do all of that but I find it really neat for it to be built into the phone.

No I am scared to do that. :D

Don't be scared, once you get it to start updating it's just like if you would have gotten the notification on your phone. Nothing to it.
