Numbers don't lie...

My brother came back from Spain Saturday and he mentioned his pro-Apple buddy (who's has an iPhone since it's launch) said "I'm bored of the iPhone... I NEED that Lumia 920". Just sharing...

I think the 920 is going to be a big hit. They just need to keep up the aggressive marketing, and I think the shots at Apple serve as a good way to hit the iSheep over the head with the realisation that the iPhone simply isn't the best phone on the market... despite what Apple will tell you.

As much as I love WP and as much as I want a Nokia, I doubt the 920 sells anywhere near as well as the Galaxy S3, much less the iphone 5. I hope I'm wrong though.

IDK... What I do know though, is a friend of mine, who's an Android advocate, surprised me the other day. We were sitting there joking about the iPhone and out of the blue he said that he was signing a new contract for work in November and he was gonna try and get a Lumia 920 when the topic of what work phone do you want comes up. Granted, this would be a secondary phone for him, but he flat out turned them down when he was offered an iPhone last year.

I too have one such incidence to share. A very good friend of mine, a semi-iPhone fanatic* was floored with the Lumia920. A friend of his bought the Dark Knight edition of Lumia 800 & since then this friend of mine is going crazy. .he's already sold on 920. I can guarantee that..

*Semi-iPhone fanatic = someone who has just fallen in love with iOS but already likes some other platform. Usually hated by other members and termed as a "predatel"(Russian word for traitor).. :P

PS: Lumia 900 launched today here in India for a whopping 33K...

How in the.**** did your friend in India get his hands on the Dark Knight 800? They only made 40 of them and they weren't for sale anywhere. I call BS.

It wasn't a 3rd world remark. And I'm INSANELY jealous of your friend now. I wanted that thing SOOOOO bad.

I bet he can sell it and cover the cost of the 920 almost fully ;)

I hate how those polls never translate in to the real numbers. Hopefully they do this time.

WebOS used to constantly win or do well in online polls and as we know it's now an international mobile powerhouse.

But it also had bad timing. With some of the bad press for Android, some Apple users getting bored, combined with the 3 screens launc from MS, we just might do a bit better ;)
(fingers crossed)

If we ever see any evidence that iphones users are getting bored that would be great for WP8 but outside of "I think" and "my friend said", all the early indicators are that 2012/2013 is not when that will happen.

Right, if all this "my friend said" doesn't result into real numbers. Then yeah, it's just that. Internet chatter.

I think the WP8 release has a good timing. It's not like people are bored of the iPhone or not interested in it. I?d say people are more ready for something new and fresh. It's not like millions will queue up to get the new Lumias but I'm sure it will have a person to person spread effect that will catch on pretty quickly. Everybody has an iPhone, how cool is that? Remember Apples slogan "Think different"? It's more like "Think samey" these days. "Oh, you also have the new iPhone" might not be such an exciting thing anymore. When an uniformed person will see the bright colors of the Lumias and the new fresh interface of WP8 I bet they'll be curious and ask "which phone is that?" etc etc. For me personally it's gonna be great having something that not every other person has, something personal, something with a dash of bright colour. I think the market is more ready for something new than it's ever been.

Didn't we say all this when the iphone 4s came out and the first wave of lumias were released?

I think that once people have a chance to play with it and use the tiles either from someone else or after W8 launches you will see more people getting interested in the WP8.
I know one of my workers here was asking me about W8, so I brought my laptop in that is dual booting with W7 and W8 to let him see it. He loved it, so I handed him my phone and had him play with that a bit too. He is now thinking of getting a WP for himself and his wife.
Right now the tiles don't mean much to people until they see them in action. I had a girl I was seeing that had an iPhone and one weekend when I was there we went to check our facebooks from our phones and I was done before her because it all went to the one tile plus the me tile for comments. She loved it. Then one time we were going somewhere and I pulled up my gps and she loved that it was that accurate and fast. She hardly used her phone when I was there because mine worked so much better and faster.

The Nokia marketing campaign showing that it beats the iPhone in just about every category is solid. It won't sway the iPhone loyalists but may give a new smartphone user or fed up android user reason to at least consider the Lumia.

Thats the key people need to actually USE it. A lot of people are put off by how it looks but once they use it they seem to love it. That WebApp they had was great for this somehow they need to get that into the hands of more people. Maybe they should do a iAd :D Wouldn't that be hilarious?

Sorry. Self-selecting polls are silly.

Remember when the Palm Pre Plus won LaptopMag.com's faceoff with iPhone and Android handsets? It did -- decisively. Didn't mean anything.

WebOS used to constantly win or do well in online polls and as we know it's now an international mobile powerhouse.

Agree with the quotes above. The poll is from Wired.com, a site for tech geeks/nerds. It doesn't reflect what non-geeks will buy. The webOS Palm disaster is proof of that. The tech blogs were raving about it but the execution was poor and Palm went down like the Hindenburg.

The 920 WILL be successful, but I think it'll be 2014 when everyone knows what a Windows Phone is.
