Nope desktop mode still not working, try both www.facebook.com and www.twitter.com and both get redirected to mobile site even on desktop mode, the mobile mode also does the exact same thing. What is the point of the setting when the websites return the same site.
I am guessing its a user agent issue which sites have to take care, but this worked perfectly when i used WP 8.0
FYI, apparently there is no way of going back to 8.1, already tried using the Nokia Recovery Tool and it just failed
I have the 1520 as well and the battery drain is pretty bad. In the past turning off the wifi fixed it for me but not this time. Let me know what you find. I may try to remove the folder apps since that is really the only "new" feature I have tried.

I faced the same thing for Live lock screen app, try to uninstall the app and reinstall it. Worked for me.
