Old news story here, explaining command line compression on low memory devices, help find it?

I followed the examples on an old news story about how to compress the OS to save on storage space, which worked, but the device runs poorly now. I can't seem to find the original news story, which also gave instructions on how to turn that 'feature' off.

If anyone could help with that I would appreciate it!
