One icon for trial, and one for paid?

Is there a way to develop an app which uses an icon for the trial version, then another one for the paid version? I'm not talking about different live tiles, but different icons in the apps list.

For example, having the trial app with a "Free" badge, then the paid one without it. I guess it could be easily done by releasing two different apps, but it wouldn't be the same.

It's not possible unfortunately - you have to program the 'trial' check in the app's code and from there you have no access to the icon in order to change it.
