Onedrive says processing changes, updated but nothing uploading

I've noticed this with 2 machines but the same wifi network.

When I copy a new folder with files into the onedrive folder on my pc so I can upload them to my account, the onedrive icon says processing changes, updated 1 second ago, then starts processing changes, updated 1 second ago. It goes on like this for hours on end with not a single file being uploaded.

My WiFi is stable since if I upload using the website, it works though RAM usage goes crazily high

I usually upload at least 400 photos in one go totaling to about 2.2GB or more. Should I upload a few at a time like 500MB at a go or is this a real issue?

Upload does start eventually but that is after several hours and you've wasted that much WiFi and electricity

I assuming you're using Windows 10? If so, how are you uploading, via a web browser or file explorer?
