lol. Just to clarify for others: there is no point to read-only open source. The whole point of open source is that it can be modified, corrected and improved by the person using it (assuming the necessary skills exist). If you can't do that, it's not really open source.
For the average consumer, the question whether it's open source or not is rather irrelevant. That's something that only ever affects the software engineers using it. Most consumers care more about cost, but being free is not necessarily what open source means.
I've expected this for a long time, but not for the whole OS. I was expecting the Modern Runtime Environment to be open sourced, but not all of Windows. I'm surprised and not surprised, all at once.

I like to see new font rendering system like mac/linux.
I hate clear type and directwrite.
