Ordering online from AT&T

If I do this, will I be able to go to a local AT&T store to exchange it if I get dead pixels? Thank you

I think is depends. Per their website online orders can be returned to an AT&T store. But I went to a AT&T owned store (not authorized) and they refused to take a phone back, stated I had to do it through the mail.

as long as it's a corp owned store it should be fine, the authorized retailers though will probably not take it back.

No, they will not exchange it in the Corporate store. It has to be exchange the way you bought it.
