OTC - Over the Cable - Windows Phone Updater

Updated my Lumia 620 to Windows 10, Build 10586, using this tool! And running quite smooth without any hiccups, unlike when I tried the preview builds 2 years back. Pity the official update route took this long to arrive.

Sent a tip about this to WC. No response...

My Lumia 640 XL is on FCU, so the OTC tool showed up to date when plugged in.

the x20 and x25 Lumia series can only update till 10586.71/Build 1511 apparently.

Doesn't work for me trying to update an old Lumia 920 (at&t-branded):

OtcUpdater 8.1.0.0

Waiting for next device. Please connect a device via USB. Press q to quit.

Lumia 920(RM-820_nam_att_100) 8.10.12393.890
There are multiple root elements. Line 2, position 2.

Mine too (HTC 8X) 8.10.14219.341 (line 2, position 2).
Possibly they haven't tested it carefully with 8.1 devices.

Look in logs folder... but mine is showing this message only.
For my Mi4 it says already updated. (RS2.674).

My Lumia 620 is Unlocked, Indian ROM. Perhaps try the Windows Device Recovery tool and then try with this tool again? Also Remove the PIN code and Set Lockscreen timeout to 5mins/never.

Are you already on Windows 10? If so it won't work. The latest supported build for older devices is 10586.71

My daughters 920 has W10 on it, but Skype won't work. Needs a skype update but it doesn't populate in the store update app. Wondering if it's possible to go to a later version of W10?

There is a way but requires some work. Did this on my Lumia 925 when Skype stopped working this summer (it was also on Windows mobile 10 TH2 build). You need at least Anniversary update for Skype to update (Skype is a bit laggy for me but works now). You need to install interop tools and change registry settings to mimic another phone (ie Lumia 830 for anniversary update). You will loose glance screen but it can be fixed. Virtual memory can also be increased to 1gb. Check XDA forum or windows 10 mobile guides in this forum for more info.

Unfortunately it got to step 24/150 on the "sending" phase and gave me an error stating: "log collection failed"

It looks like the update package is 650 MB, so do I need to have 650 MB free on my phone for it to successfully install?
