"Other Storage" holding 2.2gb!

I am fairly sure a day ago I had about 1.6gb left in my phones memory. But tonight I received a message saying I had low memory. I only have 483.81mb! So I went to storage check too see what took up so much memory. Only To find other storage has taken 2.2gb. What is the "other" storage hold and why is it taking so much of my space?
