How do I retrieve a forgotten password on xbox one

You'll have to go to account.live.com
From there "forgot my password" for the Microsoft account you have set up for Xbox Live.

Then you can reset it and replace it.
If you've set up two step authentication (I'd highly recommend it) you'll need an alternate email/phone number/authentication app that you've registered for two step.
