personal heart rate zones

Hi all'

Off the back of Microsoft statement of 'Heart rate zones Your personal heart rate zones reflect percentages of your maximum heart rate. Working out in each heart rate zone gives you different benefits.' is there a way to actual configure my real personal heart rate zones? or at least adjust it so it takes in account my maximum heart rate value. I have searched the forums and the net for a possible answer but its seems there is no answer.

I'm a 40 year old with a 45 to 55 bpm resting heat rate and a 200 bpm maximum heart rate which makes my zone 5 (max effort) 191+ and not the 166+ that Microsoft states I must have as my max.

All of my runs so far are strenuous even though I have just done a 4 mile very easy run (mainly zone 2) but by Microsoft forcing me to have incorrect non personal heart rate zones its is going to make the majority of my personal data in Microsoft Health complete and utter rubbish which comes to heart rate training.

My Doctor has stated I am healthy and I have an excellent stroke volume for a 4 year old and is nothing to be of concern.

Re: personal heart rate zones

I assume MS calculates your max hr from a combination of your resting hr and demonstrated maximum? That's my feeling, though they may also take into account age and weight. What makes me think that they are looking for a demonstrated maximum is that since getting Band 2, my workouts have all been of a 'base-building' nature using stationary cycling, which involves long duration but nowhere near maximum exertion. MS is saying my max hr is 137, which is nowhere near right (should be around 160/165), but none of my workouts since I've had Band 2 have approached that level. On the other hand, they calculate my resting hr at 48, which is absolutely in line with my Band 2 stats.

I'm thinking that the only way to drive up your max hr with MS health is to prove it by having it reflected in your workouts, but again, this is speculation on my part. Its unfortunate that MS won't allow you to set up your hr zones, but perhaps they will add it as a feature down the road.

Edit to add: Similarly, I see the same thing with Max V02. Since getting Band 2 and doing all base building workouts, my V02 max has been dropping, simply because I haven't shown it any strenuous workouts.

Re: personal heart rate zones

Thanks for the response Nate, I'll keep an eye on the heart rate ranges in MSH to see if they change with the more runs I do, I do hope that they add a feature that allows me to add my HR correct ranges, I want to use MSH as my go to piece of software to analyse my health data.

I've only done 5 runs (which MSH says is the minimum I need) so far and V02 hasn't been estimated as of yet.
